Let them make a rule about it but unless the punishment is severe teams will just ignore it.

Just do a lottery system for playoff seeding, for each win, give that team a fucking pingpong ball. It could possibly make it a little more interesting at least.

Eliminating the wildcards would solve the issue, but the NFL won't do that because they would lose a substantial amount of money. They're much more likely to add one or two wildcard spots before taking any away. This is just a drawback of having a playoff system.

Having nearly half the teams from each conference in the postseason is more than fair. Nobody should be complaining when the dominant teams earn the right to rest people.

This argument reminds me that we need to add more games to the season, so teams can rest their players even sooner.

it'd solve the issue but worsen the pool. Certainly it'd make the division a much more important thing, but you'd also have the immediate whining of Cowboy fans.

wait, maybe it's not such a bad idea.

But,then you have the 8-8 teams winning divisions and 11-5 teams sitting at home. And an 11-5 team playing at an 8-8 team, which is a bit of an equalizer I guess, but might be bettered by giving the division winner an autobid but not an automatic home game.
