I fully expect Fox to return and Delhomme to be the starter though.

I'd bet my savings that Fox didn't want Moose to go. That's a Hurney/cap thing. In the end it was a terrible decision anyway.

By whom? Moose would come to say that “Chicago is where receivers go to die.” Moose turned down the team despite being told how much they wanted to keep him and being offered a generous contract to line his pockets even more elsewhere. It would seem he came to regret his decision.

We blame Hurney every time we lose a good player. We also blame him if he breaks the bank to force a player to stay and leave us without the cap space to keep depth or sign FA's. So we hop on whichever side of the fence that feels right once we have some hindsite. In truth it's a very difficult job trying to juggle keeping key players with also trying to have decent depth.

He's also made some very good decisions, including getting Fox, and has kept us competitive and come up with some new young studs. Along the way, there have been some things that needed to be fixed (like the scouting), and in general things have been fixed or at least improved.

Maybe there are legit issues. I have had an issue with the WR position ever since Fox arrived. Other than Ricky P. they haven’t ever been able to find help for that position and they do not seem to put much priority on doing so. I also currently have an issue with Davidson.

But one thing I’ve learned is that you can’t rely on their history to predict which way they will move in the future, other than treating their players and coaches well. Building and maintaining a class reputation is a cornerstone of this organization. Other than that, I wouldn’t bet your life’s saving on them doing this or that next year based on what they have done in the past.

They tend to fix a problem later than we want them to. I think this offseason will be the time to fix QB. Maybe that means going with Moore, maybe it does not but I think they address it one way or another. Hopefully they add a WR who can take some pressure off Smith and shore up DT.

If that happens I vote for decapitation for both of them. I'm OK with Fox coming back, but not Jake starting.

No shit it's difficult but there are teams around the league that maintain a high level of talent and have the cap room to still pick up free agents when they need, like the Eagles- people want improvement is that really too much to ask?

    Really?

they did what they felt they had to, the extension to 2004, knowing it'd make them do something with the contact. Then he busted out in 04 and it didn't make sense for either side for him to play a one year ten mil deal.

I agree if they had to do it again, he finds a way to stay. Very hard to say what we actually offered though. He certainly would've made an impact in 05 and through the years where our O declined from there.

people certainly do want improvement. I'm sure we would've loved to have had some room to improve last year - we would've in literally any other circumstance. We had Peppers' $16 million, plus a lack of cap relief from cutting the two DTs we certainly would've looked at cutting. We really didn't even get relief from Lucas. In any year with a future capped year we'd have had plenty to spend.

As for the state of improvement, I still contend it's not just a matter of improvement but the statements of expected continual contending. I don't think that's a realistic ideal.
