I was surprised when Munnerlyn was announced as a starter last night at the game. I just got home and checked the NFL Gamebook. It shows us starting just 2 linebackers (Beason and Anderson) and 5 defensive backs. Shows Diggs entering the game as a sub. Explanation please? Would we typically start a game in that package?

Did the Vikings start in base personnel, or did they start with a one back set? They play quite a bit with Harvin in the slot.

Gamebook says vikings came out 3 wide so the D came out in nickel, nothing to see here.

Thanks. Just checked and they started in a 1-back set with 3 wides. Makes sense now. It just caught me a bit off guard when Munnerlyn was introduced as a starter. Actually, I did not hear Gamble introduced and did hear Munnerlyn and thats what really had my wondering what was up.

they play a ton of 3 wide, though us calling him a starter in pregame is another thing.
That suggests Carolina planned on starting in nickel. Which is weird. I'd rather reward Diggs with the announcement, even as meaningless as it is.
