I would let Peppers walk. I would sign Davis. I would make a reasonable effort to keep Marshall but not break the bank.

If we let Peppers walk and do not pay Kemo his huge roster bonus then we should have some cap room to work with even after signing Davis and possibly Marshall. Whether it is enough to get a new starting QB, a new starting wideout and shore up special teams and DT is questionable. You gotta hope for some help in the draft.

It was worse before we signed him. The defense has not given up a lot of points even though the offense has been terrible. It is built to defend the pass more than the run. If the offense were fixed so that the defense got to play with the lead more often it would be fine. Since we are playing from behind so much other teams run on us a lot.

Would be tough to do without cap room. All three are FAs right now so we save nothing by failing to keep them.

Which is my point on uncapped. I don't want a 2011 lockout, but a 2010 situation where we tag one, RFA three others, and can dump bad salaries to sign some long term deals is a positive for this team.

Peppers is counting for $16 million against this year's cap. I would assume that we would free up $16 million if we do not tag him and let him walk.

It won't happen right away in 2010, but if you look at other sports leagues without a salary cap, you see them dominated by large market teams.

Teams like Carolina, Jacksonville, Indianapolis, Green Bay, etc. would all be hurt long term by an NFL without the salary cap.

If 2010 is uncapped and then a new deal comes out in 2011 that includes a cap it might be a good thing for the league. No cap at all from here on out would be bad.

No. He doesn't count anything next year either way because he doesn't have a contract for next year. He'd count to re-franchise, but in an uncapped year it wouldn't cost us the ability to get other people.

long term, yeah, but I don't think the league would play a second year uncapped, or play a year without a labor contract.
