There are more than two guys who can coach a 3-4 defense.

I don't think there is anything to suggest cowher would have a similar offense. The coordinators he had were known for tricks and such.

not buying that. i have no clue what the plan was with carr...a new way to throw money away maybe. if he was the one for the day when joke delhomme couldn't do it anymore, then why cut him after 1 season? and if that's not the case, how did they miss so unbelievably badly...he was awful. i guess what i'm saying is, if carr was a reclamation project, that's a shakey way to find the next 5-10 season starter.

post-surgery...we've had 2 drafts and 2 offseasons, and we've got a group of cast-off qbs that would have some trouble finding work elsewhere. they're so incapable in fact that they can't unseat joke delhomme.

    not good.

    How about he sucked?

Lots of people thought Carr needed to be put behind an OL that wouldn't kill him and he had shown flashes in houston but basically he was done we discovered that first hand.

ya...i think i said he was awful. not sure how you read that any other way.

the point being, carr was, at best, a frivolous mistake. he never should have been considered as the replacement. not his fault, so much as the administration that brought him.
not exactly the best-laid plan, any way you want to turn it.

    -1 fox-hurney.

We're not made for a 3-4. The last staff had quick success building off the talent that was there. A 4-3 staff would have a significantly larger base to work off than a new 3-4 team.

I think there's plenty to suggest there'd be similar offenses. Chan Gailey did some trick stuff, and there's the Kordell stuff. They also pretty blandly ran over and over again. In 99, his worst year, they ran the ball more than all but four teams.

It should also be noted that Capers D in Green Bay is kind of shitty.

Sure, the best thing roster wise might not be to switch schemes but in a theoretical situation not having one of those two guys doesn't mean you can't find a 3-4 coordinator.

I don't think running more automatically make on offense conservative. I guess my point was that Cowher didn't seem to dictate conservative offenses. They all kinda did some quirky things with their roster, no?
