Re-organize like this (based on last year's results)

    1st Division
    Tennessee Titans 13-3
    Carolina Panthers 12-4
    NY Giants 12-4
    Indianapolis Colts 12-4
    Pittsburgh Steelers 12-4
    Miami Dolphins 11-5
    New England Patriots 11-5
    Baltimore Ravens 11-5
    Atlanta Falcons 11-5
    Minnesota Vikings 10-6
    Philadelphia Eagles 9-6-1
    NY Jets 9-7
    Arizona Cardinals 9-7
    Chicago Bears 9-7
    Tampa Bay Buccaneers 9-7
    San Diego Chargers 8-8

    2nd Division
    Washington Redskins 8-8
    Houston Texans 8-8
    New Orleans Saints 8-8
    Denver Broncos 8-8
    Buffalo Bills 7-9
    San Francisco 49ers 7-9
    Green Bay Packers 6-10
    Oakland Raiders 5-11
    Jacksonville Jaguars 5-11
    Cincinnati Bengals 4-11-1
    Cleveland Browns 4-12
    Seattle Seahawks 4-12
    St Louis Rams 2-14
    Detroit Lions 0-16

At the end of the season, top 2 from 2nd Div promoted and bottom 2 from 1st Div relegated. Can you imagine the intensity of the games where relegation is on the line???

Play each team in your div once. 15 games. Expand the playoffs to all 16 teams. Have a 1st Div playoff and a 2nd Div playoff. Super Bowl champion and the "Whatever" Bowl Champion. Godell can put that 2nd Div bowl game anywhere on the planet, keep the SB in the USA!

If you want the feeling that every team has a shot ever year, then do promotion/relegation prior to the playoffs.

I love the NFL but the stupid little 4 team divisons have to go. You automatically make the playoffs b/c youre better than 3 other teams??

    Do it Roger! :trampoline:

In your plan two teams get dropped from the playoffs for happening to lose in the top division, while two teams that get to feast on the likes of the Lions, Rams, Raiders, Cheifs, 49ers, Browns get into the playoffs.

How does san diego make the division 1 cut for going 8-8 in a division with 3 of the worst teams in the NFL, but the saints redskins and texans get fucked over for having tougher teams in their division.

EDIT: Did the dallas cowboys refuse to play in this new system?

They must have, followed by KC. 30 more teams soon to follow.

    Nope..

Well even you are wrong as well. He left out the Chiefs in that 2 division set up. The Chiefs & Cowboys are shipped off to the UFL I guess. I am just glad that of all the different scenarios I have thought up as to how I would possibly set up the NFL schedule and playoffs, none were as bad as this. That set up is ludacris!!

The only good thing about world football (soccer) is promotion and relegation, but it would never work in the States. We're too focused on market size and stadiums. The way of the world should be that if you suck, you don't get to waste the fans time with a playoff appearance. I have never believed that everybody gets in the playoffs (which is why I did not like it when NC HS FB expanded their playoffs and let a bunch of 3-8 teams in - those kids know they didn't earn or deserve the berth).

A lot of people want the NCAA men's basketball tournament expanded to include more teams, but it already includes every team, since everyone has a conference tournament and that winner gets a "buy-in" seat at the main event. That's as close as we'll get to an all-inclusive tournament.

Back to the main point, the underlying reason that a second-division would never work is that you could not convince fans of a second-tier team to keep paying full price for a ticket to a game with an inferior product when you know the owner would certainly keep charging it. As it is, it's a crime to pay regular-season prices for preseason games when you know that a) the game does not count and b) the best players aren't even going to play the entire time.

Unless we had a tournament that incuded everyone. That would be kinda all-inclusive.
