"I keep hearing that even though the Panthers have just five picks now, the chances of them only using five picks on draft weekend is slim.

Just from the chatter out there among other teams, they're looking to add picks, even if they don't or won't move Julius Peppers."

So how does a team go about getting more picks. Trading players is the only way I know. So witf does he think they are going to do, trade someone else?
    If so who, besides Jake?

    Trade players or trade down.

If we trade out of Day 1, I'm gonna be upset.

Gantt also wrote an article saying that the best pass rushers typically were not first round picks. Pretty interesting, so I think the idea of maybe getting more picks without necessarily getting a first round selection back is the idea of the bigger the pool, the better prospects of landing a keeper.

Honestly, outside of Raji and Jerry odds would have it that someone selected after them is going to have a better career than one or both of them. As Darin basically put it; scouting goes a long way, but luck definitely plays into the equation as well.

Quote per Gantt: "Of the top 100 players on the NFL's all-time sack chart, only 45 were first-round picks, and only 23 of those were top-10 overall selections. So for every top-five pick such as Bruce Smith and Reggie White on the list, there's a Michael Strahan (second round, 40th overall) or a Kevin Greene (fifth round, 113th). Scanning the top 10, you'll find undrafted undersized defensive tackles such as John Randle, and late-round afterthoughts like Richard Dent (eighth round, 203rd) scattered equally among the first rounders."

Maybe they will use the credit card again. Get a pick for next years pick. Would it be easier to get compensation for Peppers in a no cap year?

I hope the management doesn't mortgage next year's draft to move back into the first round again. If so, this crap is eventually going to catch up with them. I know the company line is Otah was this year's first rounder that we got a year early, but unfortunately they didn't predict the DL going down the shitter like it did. While having a solid RT is a great thing to have, the stoutness of our OL has it polar opposite of a ridiculously weak D-line.

If the team does acquire more picks, it had not be at the expense of future drafts.

Crap, even NFL executives have taken a page from the government about floating endless deficits!!!

Don't worry, it's just the ponzi draft method. That stuff never catches up with you.

It's not like we don't have players to trade, just none of them would make sense bettering our team to get more draft picks.

Here's a list of our players other teams would jump at:

-Smitty, Gross, Wharton, Williams, Stewart, Peppers (one his tender is signed) Beason, Davis and Gamble.

I'm not saying that I WANT these players traded, though it's not like we have a Lions-esque roster with no value to trade with.

I can't see management trading any of these players to get extra picks. Each of those players are cornstones at their respective positions. Wharton and Davis being the most expendable of the group.

If I were going to trade anyone it would be a linebacker. That is the only are where we have a lot of depth.

anything to get into the first round using our future 1 would require our 2, also. It's not worth it.

I don't know about dropping lower than 59 (?). I'm not totally against having 3 3rds instead of one late 2 and one late 3, but it'd have to be specifically if we got to our pick and all the DTs were gone that would make immediate impact.
