White clover. It's a good source of nitrogen for the lawn. Most people don't care for it. It reseeds like crazy and grows too low for the mower to chop off the flowers. It will die back in the heat of the summer and return in late fall. Use a pre-emergent weed killer in the late summer and early spring. Use a granular weed killer to get rid of what is growing now.

That's it, white effing clover. I reckon I'll try the granules. Thanks, Token.

Now that you know, you should also know that clover seeds can remain viable to 10+ years in the soil. If you aerate your lawn, you take a chance of bringing old seeds to the surface. You will need to treat with a pre-emergent after any work that turns up old dirt.

I aerated in September, that may be what brought it up. We didn't move into the house until June so I don't know if it was there last spring or if the clown aerated last year. Thanks again.

I don't use any more fertilizers and chemicals than I absolutely have to. The way I see it there's no sense in contributing to the "run off" situation. That, plus I'm lazy.

Thanks. I don't plan to reseed as I always do that in the fall. I was just curious as I already have some weeks coming up so I didn't know if using a pre emergent would be moot at this point.

Put it down for sure, it will kill the grabgrass seed in your soil and kick-start your turfgrass. You will have to spray the existing weeds because they will explode once fertilized.

Some people like it. It's called ecolawn. You have to remove your existing sod and buy seed that include wild clover and bunches of other flowering plants. It has to be mowed a lot less, and the birds and bees love it. I don't think HOAs would care for it, unless it were in the back yard.

My Daddy must have planted it for his bees then, we had it all over.
