I'm taking a friend who's a huge red sox fan to the Red Sox @ Orioles spring training game in Ft Lauderdale. Anyone ever been to a spring training game? Her 5 year old son will be with us, will there be a chance to meet players and stuff? (particularly the visiting team)?

I spained my ankle trying to catch up with Derek Jeter for his autograph one sping.

Spring Training is a hoot. Laid back compared to the regular season and the players are more accessible.

Yes...go early. Often there are several fields at training camp compounds and some players who are not in the game will be practicing on the other fields. It's way kick back.

Purple jello late at night when nobody's around.

    Now that's laid back.

That stadium in Ft. Lauderdale isn't good for meeting players since there isn't a training field nearby and the parking lot is contained. CM is correct about going early, as your best chance is probably to stand along the dugout while they're taking batting practice and such. I'd call ahead and see how early they open the gates.

Got my tickets yesterday. I'm more excited about this than I expected to be. Not as excited as seeing the yankees/red sox at fenway, but the idea of being a lot closer is pretty cool.
