did del rio run the same defense under fox? it looked a hell of a lot more impressive than what i've see trgovac do here.

it looked pretty much the same from 2002 to 2003. We started out early 2002 running cover 2 Tampa type principles in the back half but from mid-2002 (about the time we stopped sucking that year) we ran more c3 and have run those shells ever since. This is what Fox preferred, it's what works once the changes in PI calls started between 2003-04 and it's what we're built for.

Granted, Del Rio's 2nd overall performance hasn't been bested here since, but that's a lot to expect.

Wrong. It was the same scheme, only the players were different. Fans liked JDR because he jumped up and down on the sidelines.

    Yes.

I have no problem with people saying that JDR was better, given that he's now a head coach, that he had the 2nd overall defense despite getting so very little from the offense compared to anything we've had since. I do have to say that there's been a bit unfair amount of trashing of Trgovac even when he was posting very good numbers, based on the ideal that since he was a replacement he was inferior. He was a very good coach, and yeah. It's going to take a lot to find a guy who's better long term.

    For whatever it's worth:

2005 defense under Trgovac: 259 points, 4522 yards allowed
2002 defense under Del Rio: 302 points, 4646 yards allowed

yeah, but I need average starting field position for every game and the number of possessions by the other team...subtract the number of team solo tackles and then add .5(team tackles) and that will give you a better indication of which defense was better

2002 team had a weaker record
2005 team had a better offense behind it, more turnovers

either way, too many variables to directly push one v/s the other. Trgovac was a worthy coach and those units were good. That's all I'm trying to say. Also, in three of his six years, Trgovac's units finished 20th, 16th, and then 18th. Those last two years were 07 and 08.
