haven't gotten yet. Comes tomorrow, might have it for the game if I can do it.

I got the Sony a300. Wanted the 350, but it was an extra hundred and literally the only difference is +4mp (14.2) and -.5fps.
Got a good deal, but it was comparable price to the Canon XS.

yeah, I understand the desire to avoid the geathead talk, but dont avoid the forum all together. There's a lot of gear talk here, but it's not all - and sharing and getting feedback has helped me learn a lot (although there's still a lot I dont know).

oh yeah. I'm just being smartassed. I caught the bug and I want to make sure that there's some substance to it. Also hopefully I can help apply some of what I learned buying so there won't be as many dumb questions as when I did it. I feel like I have enough idea about product line to go sell these. Conversely I have a complete idea what my pro camera setup would look like, and enough credit to go do it, so like I said, I might duck out now and again so as to stay sane and close enough to solvent.

Definitely want to take this to the game. Possibly words to regret but fuck it.

So, it came today. a300 with the 3.5-5.6 18-70 kit lens (feels light and easy to use - I imagine they do dumb down kit lenses a little bit for the newest users) and got a Sigma 70-300 4-5.6 with macro settings. I presented the wife my new toy with the 300 and the hood on it, and that does make a bit more of a presentation than with the kit lens.

Waiting for it to charge up so I really haven't done anything but play in manual focus. Feels awesome, though. Love the look. Can't wait to incorporate it into holidays and trips.

One of the fucking dogs licked my long lens so it's time to go find out how to clean lenses.

Got some really great pics. The telescoping 300 lens really didn't reach that far - so yeah, probably a teleconverter so I can get it in. However, there was a Bronco fan with a 400 lens, white, that he had, just sitting in the stands. Granted we snuck beer in so it's not that hard to do, but that was a huge lens.

Still, I got as close as to get formations, which was what I realistically expected to get. Got a great shot of the ball almost at Gamble who had inside position on a PD, but nothing else great for action - a shot of the back cutting in the hole wasn't bad. Was kinda tough because I really had it down and just watched the game most of the time.

Last time I could realistically use this with the team, until traning camp.

Getting a little shit for buying a Sony instead of a Canon. I get that, it's fine. It's partially a gadget thing, and sure, it's a little more suited to someone who's used to a p&s. I stand by why I did it though, and I'm loving the hell out of the camera. It definitely is equivalent, and definitely will be a lot more camera than I will need in the next few weeks.

Screw 'em. you've certainly put in a lot more forethought and research into your camera purchase than I did, so you're good to go.

Glad you enjoyed shooting the game - if you got good pics with the conditions last night, you'll be thrilled with results on a sunny September/October 1:00 game.

Rent this and let me know when you're going. Shooting training camp is a blast - I cant wait to do it again 1) in decent weather and 2) with longer glass (last time I shot in light, steady rain and only had a 300mm).

    bigma :mushy:

yeah I might have to do that. Lot of money for a rental but I know it'd be a ball.

People I've shown the camera have been very pleased. Dude I went to the ballgame with thought it was fun as hell. I think there are a lot of Canon/Nikon snobs and I'm justifying my choice to a point for the high ISO, the advanced live view/tilt, and the in-body IS, but really digging the functionality. I'd like to find a good older Minolta prime on the cheap and then hopefully stop looking at things.
