I ranted on this last night only to find out that the Bobcats wasn't playing...looks like I should have just saved the post...

For those who don't know...if you live in Western North Carolina, you are NOT in the Bobcats territorial area. Therefor Bobcats games that are scheduled to be televised on either FSN South or SportsSouth will not be available for at leastthose in the Asheville/Waynesville/Marion area which are all served by Charter Communications.

I had a member of this message board who clairifed to me that when both the Bobcats and Hurricane are broadcasted that the Cats would likely be on SportsSouth. My online cable guide along with the TV Guide Channel showed the Bobcats as being on. Instead tonight on my television is the alternate programming (a Division III Football Game). That to me must indicate that Western North Carolina is NOT in the area that FSN South descirbes as being "Carolinas". How fooked up is that?

The weirdness of my local area not only is limited to that but in other areas as well. Not only do we not get the Bobcats, but neither do we get the Hawks. BUT, as weird as it may seem, we do get occasional Nashville Predators (NHL) and even a few Memphis Grizzlies broadcasts...

Now you're telling me that we can get neiter Cats nor Hawks, but we can get the occasional Grizzlies games? That also is fooked up.

Here's the next thing I would like to know...Does the NBA or the individual organization have any say in which areas are considered the home territory, or does this all lie with FSN South?

Sorry for venting a little steam but for someone who's trying their very best to become a fan of the Bobcats, it's hard to do so when you can't watch enought of their games to develop a following.

I'm just courious, for those who watched tonight's broadcast, which folks on here got to see the game, and where are you located?

Just got done watching the game in Charlotte, it was on Sports South on TWC.

Funny thing was, unlike your experience, the game was NOT listed on the guide. It listed an Atlanta Thrasher NHL game. Regardless, it was the Bobcats broadcast that was on the channel.

Dan....dont feel bad, I cant watch the games of the Bobcats, Hurricanes, Hawks, Predators, Grizzlies, or any other professional team. I have DirecTV and because of the suscription sports packages like NBA League Pass, MLB Extra Innings, NHL Center Ice, etc - all of those games are blocked, unless you bought those packages. But it does seem weird that we can get Atlanta Braves games during baseball season and nothing else at other parts of the year.

Seems like its all screwed up.

Do you have a separate channel for Sportsouth? Just poking around the internet, the only thing I can come up with is that it looks like Sportsouth shares programming with Comcast/Sports Southeast in those areas so the pro teams get bumped when CSS has live programming. Was the college football game you got West Georgia at Valdosta State by chance?

    Dan-
I did think you were getting Bobcats hoops (but I didn't realize where you lived). You may consider sending an e-mail to the Bobcats about your desire to see their games. They, provided they read it, should then approach the TV folks to let them know there is interest in your part of the state. Others on the board would know better than I about the switching of games into regions, but I would think it's not all that complicated for them to get the game on in your area.

In all honesty, you didn't miss much (as they got shelled), but knowing you want to see the games should make the Bobcats moist, and want to hook you up as best they can.

Write them, and let me know what happens. Good luck.

Yeah, I'll definitely be sending them an e-mail over the weekend and I'll paraphrase their response to everyone here.

I can't remember the exact teams on the D-III game they were showing. I don't think CSS and SportSouth has any agreement in regards to the Bobcats, if they do it hasn't been publicized. BTW, even though our cable system is based in Asheville, we don't get CSS on our lineup.

I have Dish Network and live in Salisbury. They create a new "alternate channel" for the Bobcats game that is only created during the game, and it's a different channel number each game. I attempted to set my DVR to record it, but it didn't work ... however, I could join the game in progress and record it just fine.

I had a friend that wasn't aware that this was taking place because he uses a channel guide with all his favorite channels set and it doesn't recognize dynamically added channels. I only figured this out because I used the channel guide that lists all of my subscription channels and not just my favorites.

This might not fix it for you, but I think there are probably a few people that want to watch them and think they can't.

Yeah I know that both DISH and Directv pops up channels on their sports tier. Too bad cable don't do that for us.

I guess the Thrashers show most of their games on SportsSouth . . . That's what I always see on TWC (of course, we can't watch them here since we're in Canes territory).

Hmmm, I wonder why all of NC/SC isn't considered Bobcats territory . . When the Hornets were here, I thought all NC/SC was there area? I think the Canes originally started with all NC/SC, but now only NC locations gets their games on FXSS (SC gets regular FSN Programming).
