NFL SUSPENDS ERIC SMITH FOR BOLDIN HIT
Posted by Mike Florio on September 29, 2008, 7:18 p.m. EDT
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that the NFL has suspended Jets defensive back Eric Smith for one game, and also has imposed on him a $50,000 fine, for the hit that knocked out Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin on Sunday.

The league determined that Smith launched himself into Boldin, and struck Boldin in the helmet, with Smith’s helmet.

At a base salary of $445,000, the suspension will cost Smith $26,176, making the total price tag $76,176. That’s roughly the equivalent of three game checks for Smith.

Boldin looked to be seriously injured immediately after the hit. But he is expected to be OK.

Looked like two helmet hits on that. As I was saying about Briggs in last night's game... no flags there either. Same as the MLB strike zone, whatever they want it to be.

PS, I wasn't seriously suggesting Hochuli apologize via e-mail.

Another "strike zone" is the excessive celebration penalty. Yesterday Steven Jackson got flagged for jumping into the stands after a TD. Tonight, the Steelers scored and didn't get flagged because "only one person jumped into the stands." wtf?

I liked Moose's spike not getting a flag because he did it out of bounds
