Green Bay's starting FB was a college linebacker, Detroit moved a defensive tackle to FB. A few other teams have done it in the past.

KC had a converted LB at FB named Boomer Grigsby, he is with Miami now and listed at LB, so that might not be the best example.

    it happens occasionally.
Besides the other examples, the Pats do it with fulltime defenders. I thought Thomas Tapeh was a convert, but couldn't find it in searching. True all-purpose fullbacks are pretty rare, so putting a guy with limited offensive background isn't necessarily a bad thing. I think a guy like Troy Fleming, who has done a good job blocking but a noticeably shitty job with the ball in his hands (drop in passing game, fumble in IND game) could do good work here as a situational backup, but probably won't make it because of the above problems that he almost definitely wouldn't be asked to do more than once a game.

I don't know that Shaw has it to play FB, but I think he's a talented player that'll get lost in the shuffle, and we need a FB, so it'd be interesting but I completely don't expect it.

Given that Seward will likely be gone (edit: after this year), since it's very doubtful that he ever gets a chance to start here... any chance we keep someone we have under contract next year over him? I wouldn't mind trading him.

Interesting question, but Fox hasn't shown a willingness to do that in the past. Generally speaking they seem like they're only concerned with the present and won't worry about the future until it gets here. Not the best way to run an organization, but it is what it is.

probably just keep the best 53. Even if that may mean 8, 9 linebackers, if last year is an indication.
