Not in terms of the final score, but the 1's vs. Philly's 1's.

    10-0 at the half, Panthers.

Carolina's offense came on late, and was without 3 of their receivers, Smith and Jarrett. D-Will ran the ball sorta average, since 23 of his 32 yards came on one carry.

The defense missing 2 CB's and a safety was not bad. Too soft in coverage for my liking, but again, missing 3 starters, wet field.

    Thoughts?

No, I say had that been a regular season game we still would have lost; score obviously undetermined. We had a hard time moving the ball with first unit 'O' and our secondary reverted to soft coverage, where McNabb picked the underneath stuff apart. Granted we were missing some players on both sides of the ball and Philly plays more aggresively in preseason than most, if not glan plans outright, but they seemed to have both of our starting units on their heels a bit.

Based on what I saw, a regular season game with our injured guys healthy would still have been 3 or 7 point win by Philly...a low scoring affair like 14-17 or 10-17.

we were able to keep a solid O and a solid back scoreless. This isn't a bad thing.
The team overall showed itself as tougher than last year, since so many people made a big deal about it being a parallel to last year pre-game, but I don't think that's necessarily indicative. We were kinda sloppy, and I do think the Eagles put more into it (there was a post about possibly scheming, and they played top picks like Jackson for a long time), there's room to improve. Better to lose playing allright than win playing shitty, given that the games don't actually matter.

Last night was a win in my book. Philly was shut out in the first half at home and I think that says a lot.

Delhomme looks strong and accurate and his leadership is as good as ever. Notice the way he worked with Matt Moore, especially after the interception near the end of the game.

I am not sure we truly understand how huge it looks like it will be to have Moose back on the Panthers. When an old fart like Moose plays as tough as he did last night then that level of intensity will rub off.

Stewart took the field. Did not do shit, but he did run a couple times. I expect that means a solid week of practice and we might see a lot more of him against the Skins.

No major injuries in horrible conditions.

    Definitely a win!!

Even though we were up 10-0, The Eagles WRs dropped many easy passes and Akers had a missed FG. We got our only TD on a botched trick play that was a very makable FG. By my account had that bocthed trick play actually ended up as a FG, we would have been down 6-3 first unit versus first unit. Again, the Panthers didn't play horrible, but their play lacked crisp execution.

All this talk about the QB, O-line, D-line play... how about that massive wiff Nate Sally had on the 50-yard run play?

I can't think of a worse missed tackle in a long time. He was square, wrapped around the torso and somehow managed to let the RB slip through both of his arms. I mean that had the makings of a text book, form tackle and turned into any but that. The only thing I can think of is he left his legs instead of using them to drive the RB into the ground. I was thinking how in the hell did he let that happen?

Awesome to see Greg Lewis and Desean Jackson playing at the end of the game.

No Gamble or Lucas hurt us early. We played off on Curtis quite a bit.

Yeah, that they shot themselves in the foot. Nothing we did on defense was "good." No one looked horribly out of position, but no one made plays and we certainly didn't "stop" them.
Dude, what game were you watching?
He has more game left than I expected, honestly. I don't think effort has been a problem for this team, though, just execution.

And to answer solarte's question, no, it wasn't a win. I think most of us rightly feel worse because neither the first team offense or defense looked good. It isn't the end of the world, but it takes the shine off of that first game against Indy.
