I`ve got a Dyson, its easily the best I`ve owned and I`ve had many. Mine was less than $500, but that still alot of $ for something I hate to use.

We bought the "consumer rated best buy" vacuum. The biggest piece of shit we ever owned. We borrowed a dyson when our "consumer rated best buy" vacuum quit working. Bought our own the next day. We got ours for $350 fom hhgreg. If I could only have all the money back we have wasted on cheap ass vacuums. Dyson wasnt dead last in consumer reports.

How well does the Dyson suck up water if your toilet overflows or you have a major water spill to clean up in your house?

I`ve got a shopvac for stupid shit like that. Come to think of it, in the 30 years I`ve lived in this house, I`ve never had to vac up a water spill.

To each his own, like I said I've owned a rainbow since 1984 and love it. I'm sure they're other vacuums that clean just as good or better but none more versatile or reliable than the Rainbow.

I've got a Dyson handheld and LOVE it. The exhaust could be redesigned some to make it better but it SUCKS!

My large vacuum is a Hoover Wind Tunnel and it does a great job. I use the big air compressor to blow the hepa filter out before I use it each time and usually whenever I empty the container.

Plu, they have Dyson's on Woot.com all the time.... I believe they are usually under $300. I'll let you know if I see one on there anytime soon.

Be warned that if you use a Dyson or any other "bag less" vacuum cleaner and have asthma or any other breathing problem you should always wear a dust mask when you empty the machine. You would not believe how much dust gets in the air when you empty those things.

It took David Oreck practically a lifetime to create the vacuum cleaner that will last practically a lifetime. For more than 40 years, he fussed, obsessed, tinkered, tweaked and torture-tested the Oreck vacuum. The result is a major design breakthrough - the revolutionary hypo-allergenic Oreck XL21® At only 9-lbs, it's remarkably easy to use and features a 21 year warranty, plus 21 FREE annual tune-ups. And now with IntellaShield Technology™, it fights odors and bacteria 24/7.
