we got the architectural shingle when we renovated our house. it looks alot better than the "old stand by" shingle. you could always go for the metal roof too. i kinda wish i would have spent a little extra and gotten a metal roof.

    Ok I see thanks!

Does anyone know if you can refurbish an ugly roof (spots etc,...) to make it look better. Ie.. if nothing is wrong with the roof otherwise.

I like the metal roof idea, but I've heard you have to paint them after a few years?

I like the metal roof idea too; haven't inquired as far as painting goes. That'll be my choice instead of shingles when the time comes.

I know here in Winston Salem 30yr architectual roof will run you around $200-$250 per square installed. A 20yr 3-tab roof will be a little under $200 per square installed.

    Hope that helped.

Doesn't seem like it'd be too noisey laid on a regular roof. On something like a barn with no roof boards and no room ceiling I imagine it could get noisey.

Metal roofs last forever. Unfortunately those little bushings that the put around the fasteners don't. Once they dry rot they start leaking too so be prepared to get up there and replace them.

My next house will have a metal roof.

you can get a 250 count bag of those screws for around $50. i think thats what i paid for them at midstatemetals.com. they have a variety of panel colors (you can special order lengths too) and screws to match. i did my 30' x 12' pool cabana for around $350. i drove over, put in my order, and went to pick it up in 2 days.
