Damn, if your a long time Giants fans, this kinda bites :-( :-( . . . . I guess the blue collar Giants fans who have been sitting near the 50 yard line for games at GIANTS STADIUM now for over 30+ years will be slowly pushed out for the fat cat fans & scalpers who can afford to pay $20k for the right to buy a season ticket

Giants to charge seat license fees at new stadium

    06/26/2008 1:49 PM

New Yorkers like to think of themselves as being ahead of the curve. In this case, they are merely catching up with other teams.

The Giants and Jets are sharing costs on a new 82,500 seat stadium that is expected to be ready in 2010. The Giants announced today at a press conferences they will be the first New York team to charge seat license fees. The cost will runs from $1,000 in the upper deck to $20,000 per seat in choice locations.

The Jets recently sent a questionnaire to their season ticket holders on this subject. They are expected to announce their own plan soon.

Teams have marketed seat licenses as investments that can be sold on the open market for a potential profit. The price range of seat licenses sold by teams has ranged from a few hundred dollars to as much as $10,000 at the renovated Soldier Field in Chicago.

But the top price for seat licenses escalated dramatically last year when the Dallas Cowboys started charging $150,000 for the elite club seats at their new, $1 billion stadium in Arlington, Tex., which is scheduled to open in 2009.

Still, this will be the first time it has occurred in the New York City market and it will be interesting to see the reaction to this move.

Don't the Panthers get 20 grand for a fifty yard line seat? If the Panthers can get it, so can the Jets or Giants. NYC is slightly bigger than Charlotte.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. PSLs screw non-wealthy fans and hurt the game atmosphere, but they also avoid the burden of additional taxes. I think it's better for people who attend sporting events to be paying the costs rather than the general populace.

Not counting club seats, the highest PSL's were $5400.00 for "A" seats in year one (of BoA). I paid $3900 per seat for "B" level one section over from the "A" seats. I believe I read where seat licenses in my section were going for 12k if available.

Zone "A" PSL's are 20 grand each according to the Panthers site. Your's are 15 grand now. They're officially sold out of both zones though.
