Solomon Wilcots from the NFL Network thinks that Jake is in the same dire situation as Kyle Boller and Alex Smith to win. He also named Aaron Rodgers from Green Bay as having to be impressive this season. So the question begs, if Jake stays healthy and has anything less than a stellar season, is he history?

I say no, UNLESS Hur/Fox is ousted and the new staff wants to go in another direction. I just don't think the National media gets that Jake is a John Fox guy and as we all know, that means he's as safe as the gold in Fort Knox as long as Fox around. They should have gotten a clue when we totally passed on QBs in the draft. It just shocked me that Jake was mentioned with QBs that must win in the same breath as Alex Smith and Kyle Boller--both of whom haven't proven anything along with Rodgers who really is untested.

Given that we tend to hear these same stories on an annual basis, I've begun to wonder if some of these guys are capable of generating an original thought :sleep1:

Solomon Wilcots isn't (IMO) a reputable "opinion" guy when it comes to NFL personnel matters.

This team is a dire situation to win. To even put Jake in the same category as Boller, Rogers and Smith is ridiculous. Jake has proven he can lead this team. Those 3 have massive question marks over themselves and all 3 could see themselves replaced very early in the season. Is Boller even the starter in Baltimore these days?

The only thing that stops Jake starting 16 games this year is his health.

Yeah, he's the incumbent in Baltimore until Flacco unseats him. It'll probably happen about mid-season unless their defense wins them several games.

I'm just glad everyone is not predicting the Panthers to win the super bowl.
Under the radar is where I prefer to be

That's because we didn't fill the positions in the draft that all the talking heads thought we should have...or not the players, at least. Had we gotten Clady, Ryan, Dorsey/Sims or the DE out of Florida (name slips me right now)...we would be playoff bound!

When has jake had a season anywhere near as bad as Kyle Boller or Alex Smith? What a bonehead.

I'll say this - If Jake ever sucks as badly as Boller or Smith, he needs to go.

The thing about it is that jake would more than likely be happy being a backup for a couple more years if it came to that, but no, he'd not just lose his job. He didn't lose it with a bum elbow, don't know why he would now. it's just health now.

I know that this is contingent upon the Panthers going to the playoffs, but Jake's January statistics are phenomenal when he is there. He is a proven commodity, although there are injury concerns, so it sounds to me like Solomon is looking for a story. An injury free Panthers team will quiet a lot of the naysayers, IMO, but that is a lot easier said than done.
