Considering the talent we are stockpiling at LB do you think we might be looking towards using our LB's more in blitz packages to get pressure on the QB?

We're loaded at LB!! I dont think it's Seward who shoud be worried, its Na'il Diggs!! Dan Connor can also play outside and Seward is younger and MUCH cheaper that Diggs!!!

Nah, I dont. Connor and Taylor both can rush, and Connor is a damn fine blitzer, but I dont think we picked them up necessarily to blitz more at all. I think Connor was pure value, and Taylor was a guy who we are hoping can bring some pass rush. We've blitzed poorly in the past, and Im not sure if thats because the guys blitzing dont do it well, or that we do it at inopportune times. I know everyone is tired of hearing about Del Rio, but he IS a good example of using the blitz effectively. He used it less than Trgo does, but was more effective, and quite frankly, though some disagree with me, Trgo is just inconsistent as hell as a DC.

Either way, Im not sure blitzing more would help. With our front four so wretched right now, were going to need whatever help we can get in that centerfield...we simply need to blitz more effectively. Blitz smart. Play smart. Be aggressive. Thats another thing, and Im getting on a rant here, but either we're in this pussified base D mode, and we have to listen to Trgo's chickenshit ass talk reason it away because of young players, or we go apeshit blitz happy, and give up mad plays...Its crazy...inconsistent...and maddening.

Either way, it never fails. Week 8 rolls around, and we settle into being a solid D usually regardless of who we have playing....

Sometimes with Trgo, we blitz to just absolute no avail.

That's not a given. Remember, Shaw played DE at PSU. If he adds weight/If he even can, they might see him as a pass rusher off the edge. It's a stretch, but it might be a necessity if there aren't any splash signings at DE.

Great draft you could make a case that was the best draft ever by the cats but only time will tell.As far as giving up a 1st rd pick next year i like this move for 2 reason i think Otah will become a great player. Also it send message to the Fans that we not going to try to win in few years but that we are going to try to win now in 08

I agree 100% in regards to Trgo. He's probably the nicest guy ever in real life, but those 'base' plays where we rush 4, the LB's and DB's immediately start backpedaling just don't get it done. And we were running it over and over. At the sportsbar where I watch the game it became a running joke over the course of the year. People I knew that were fans of other teams would occasionally walk by and 'predict' our defensive play. It was always the same and they were 99% right. We all got a good laugh... :(
