So what if D-Will and Stewart become elite backs? We would have a hell of a rushing attack!

Then we'll have one hell of an offense and should trade whichever one we like less for the DT/DE we should've been taking in the second round and whatever position we can't address next year.

So, since the Steelers took Mendenhall does that mean Willie Parker is done?

We would not have made the Superbowl imho without both Deshaun Foster and Stephen Davis. Actually, we would not have made it without steroids, but that's a different matter. If Stewart can be the kind of back for us that Davis was then the combination of him and Williams could be special.

While I don't like not having a 1st round pick next year, to suggest that we can't address needs because of it is simply not true. We will have the ability to address any need on the team via trades, free agency and the draft combined. On facit will be gone, our 1st round pick. It's not doomsday.

The Steelers don't have nearly as many holes as we do. If our team was that good, I'd feel less concerned about spending a first round pick on a backup. Moreover, I wouldn't feel nearly as bad if we'd traded down into the 20s to get Stewart or Mendenhall, since that probably would have meant we could have traded up without giving our '09 pick.

My commet about the Steelers RB situation was in response to this post. Should have quoted it. Sorry bout that.

Totally separate issue between this and the Panthers having a number of holes that need to be filled.

No, it's the same issue. We had holes, which means that we drafted Stewart with the intention of having him bump DW to the sidelines. When you have few holes, you can afford to spend a late first round pick on a guy who you know is just going to be a backup, injury insurance, and maybe the starter a couple of years down the road.
