I haven't seen the dook game yet (got it on dvr) but I got to see some of WVU/Arizona. I think Budinger would probably drop 40 on dook, so WVU is the better matchup for us, but I think WVU has a good shot to beat dook too.

Dook is just not as crisp as it needs to be on offense, and they are slow and small on defense. That's a horrible combination. Still, if they play better, they can beat just about any team in the nation. So it's an enigma.

 

I agree. WVU looked good last night. I don't expect dook can play nearly as badly as they did against Belmont, but it seems WVU is playing pretty well.

 

Inconsistency is the sign of a team that isn't very good, in my opinion.

 

Okay... wow... and this REALLY REALLY sucks to do this, but I'm going to defend dook.

The reason dook currently sucks is the lack of production from Singler. He's hit a freshman wall because there's no depth behind him. Coach K has been known in the past to ride a guy till the wheels fall off. Its the same reason JJ's group went nowhere in the tournament. He was always exhausted by the time the NCAA tournament came around. Singler doesn't have any more in the tank. This same dook team, earlier in the year would've crushed Belmont. We'll say even if there was some magical way that Belmont knew how to defend dook earlier in the year. It wouldn't have made any difference, dook would've easily won. Coach K needs to stop riding those same horses so hard. A couple of those +20 games bring in the scrubs more often. Especially in places where there's little depth.

 

I have WVU in the elite 8. Damn you, Belmont.

 

He wasn't the only player sucking ass. But I don't expect dook to play as bad as they did last night fwiw. I don't really buy into the freshman wall on the first game in the NCAA tourney. He just had 4 days off from playing a game. If he has been taking care of himself and getting the rest he needs that shouldn't be the issue, at least not from a physical standpoint.

Now from a mental standpoint from the fact he hasn't been there and doesn't know what to do in these situations could very well be the problem. That's more of my guess from some of his comments after the game.

 

It seems like the Duke players always lose their legs right around the end of February. At least in recent years anyway. After K plays his starters for 37 minutes in a 40 point blowout against Our Sisters of The Worthless Miracle at the beginning of the season. There just isn't any gas left in the tank at the end. K needs to develop his bench.
