Linebacker Seward to visit New England

The New England Patriots are scheduled to host a visit from Panthers restricted free agent linebacker Adam Seward on Thursday, according to The Boston Globe's website.
Seward has been a backup linebacker and special teams player for the Panthers. New England apparently is interested in him playing linebacker in its 3-4 defense, the same scheme he played in college at UNLV. The Panthers use a 4-3 alignment.
The Panthers tendered Seward at the lower amount ($927,000) as a restricted free agent. The Patriots can sign him to an offer sheet, but the Panthers have the right to match. If the Panthers decline to match, New England would have to send Carolina a fifth-round draft pick, the same round in which Seward was originallhy selected.

Vilma would have been nice... :smiley_beatin_horse but the draft picks are stacking up

Wow... the Patriots would rather have Morgan's backup and give up a pick than Morgan.

Either way would be fine. I wonder if they look at him as a starter?

As old as their LBers are, I wouldn't doubt he would at least get the chance to compete for a starting spot. I don't think anybody even knows if Seau wants to play another season or not.

maybe they want him for ST's and think he'll cost less than Morgan anyway... plus then there's that head thing

He is a Morgan-in-waiting, not exactly an iron man. If I knew he wouldn't have calf, ankle, whatever problems I'd want to keep him over the pick, which ain't much.
