Why do we need to sign a veteran QB here?

What do we gain by signing a vet QB here? I think it would be a wasted roster spot.

Well, we have Jake who is questionable in my mind as to how his Tommy John surgery will affect him.

Matt Moore, unproven with limited success and Basenez.....????

Sounds to me like we are in the market for a proven QB who can step up if Jake can't go and if Moore get overwhelmed and personaly I havent seen enough of Basenez to have an opinion other than if he was that great then why hasnt he done more with his chances in the pre-season.

I wouldnt be upset if we brought in a vet and drafted a guy really.

What about bringing in Leftwich? He is a experienced QB that was in a similar offensive system, and on the plus side is not 40+ years old.

I guess I just don't see the value someone like that would have here. They'd either take snaps away from Moore or create a call for Jake's head if he stumbles. We brought in 2 vets last year and we sucked...why would this year be any different. We really didn't get any continuity until we put the Panthers product in the game. Just my $.02.

I kind of agree. If Jake is permanently damaged there really isn't a vet out there that we could sign this year that will make us a playoff team. If he can't go I would just as soon give Moore and/or Basanez a shot at it to see what we've got. I don't think they would suck any worse than a Cleo Lemon etc.
