Anyone ever done it? I have heard that it is not too hard if you have several people to help lift the logs.

Imagine how much money you could save if you were able to build your own house.... I wish I had the skills.

If I could afford to go to Washington State to take that class I probably would just pay someone to build it for me.

I know the building inspector pretty well. He would probably work with me on it.

keep reading....there's more to the site than just their classes. The construction of a log home requires approval of an engineer. The footings alone have to be approved by an engineer, so be prepared for some additional cost. If you had it built by, say TN Log Homes, the cost per square foot is at aminimum of $250.

I would want the foundation prepared by a professional anyway. I just hear lots of horror stories about crews who are supposed to get it under roof and fail to do so in a timely manner.

A friend of my dad's built his own home from scratch with no kit. If I can get him to help me it might not be too bad. I am a few years away from being ready to do it anyway.
