    Anybody have any guesses?

Considering how a lack of oline depth has really hampered the Panthers in the past, is it unreasonable to bring him back and let him fight for a starting job?

If we pay Gross north of $7 million per year, what is Wharton worth to the market? And, is it worth paying him $3-$4 million per year to have as a starting or quality backup LT?

If not $3-$4 million, how much is he worth?

The Adam Meadows fiasco comes to mind. I don't think Wharton is worse than Steussie was when we cut Todd, and then we replaced Todd with nobody. How much is it worth to keep Wharton on board to prevent that from happening?

Gross has not excelled at LT. Bridges did not excel at RT. A rookie is unknown. If the rookie winds up being poor, and Bridges or Gross gets hurt - we are FUCKED.

Are there other players in FA that are as skilled as Wharton who we could sign for less?

    He'll get decent money.

    Unreasonable, no. Unlikely, Yes.

I'd guess that much but the market has been fucked up with some of these new contracts so it may be plenty more than that.

More than we'll spend. I'm resigned to us going tackle in the 1st round at this point- that would be cheaper and, ideally, have more upside.

Losing two starting tackles will wreck us anyways- that is if we keep wharton and he or bridges/gross get hurt we're fucked.

Could we really sign him for less?

Gross could set a damn record for his contract this year, which is kinda fucked up.

I'd almost rather grab Wharton, Flozell Adams, and a first rounder.

Could we get both Flozell and Wharton for the price of Gross?

With Gross known as a good RT and mediocre LT, would he really get a record setting contract? Will a team pay through the nose for a "good" (not great) RT?

I think we are crazy if we give him LT money. If we do, we might be forced to start him on the left side, which does not make us a better football team IMO.

Leonard Davis got over $7 million, and he's a guard. Currently, Gross is the #1 OT free agent, and he's unlikely to take less than the #1 guard free agent from 2007.

I'm pretty sure Davis was signed to play tackle or guard depending on what happened with Columbo.

Gross is a solid player and it will not kill us to keep him but I do think we will have to over pay to do so. His deal is not as risky as Peppers is though. Gross is if anything steady.
