I hated how much people loved JDR was a coordinator, and I still think he got undue credit considering that he was only here one year, Fox is a defensive minded coach, and our rankings since then have occasionally equaled what he did. All that said, I don't think it's out of the question to suggest that JDR has been a better head coach than John Fox. Yes, Fox has taken us farther in the playoffs, but playing in a shitty conference undoubtedly has something to do with that. I guess I just feel like the rah-rah bullshit that annoyed me so much when he was a DC actually serves a purpose for a head coach. Whether he is or isn't, I still have to give the guy credit for what he's done with the Jaguars.

I'm still puzzled as to why they didn't bring more consistent pressure - it was pretty obvious their front 4 just wasn't getting there and that Brady was absolutely picking them apart.

But yeah, that rah-rah stuff is better served from the HC than a DC.

A rah-rah DC with a good defense is lauded and gets promoted to HC. A rah-rah DC with a crappy defense is just a crack head :D

blitzing might help stop the run, but Brady will beat the blitz. Granted, when he completes all but two passes, which were both drops, you can say that trying something else probably would've worked better, but I don't think it would work better. You don't play man against the Pats.

I'll reiterate what I said with the game last week - JDR made a very gutsy call bringing in three guys on the offensive staff to replace some esteemed coaches.
He made a gutsy call with Garrard, too. Those moves fail and he's out.

With the protection Brady had, Davie Carr could have won that game.

Nah, he would have just held onto the ball until they finally sacked him.

Brady can beat the blitz, but he doesn't beat it 26/28 times. Baltimore showed you could get to him.

When we beat them at BofA, we got to Brady and he threw some really ugly passes. Now I also think he had an off day that day, but still, with pressure he can struggle. Post season when you win or go home, I think I would have tried more pressure. Brady may beat it and likely the outcome would have been the same, but when it's do or die, go for it.

Fans always think the answer is to blitz more, but I think Jacksonville did the percentage thing. They really didn't have much chance of limiting the Pats offense with so many injuries on defense.

    Different team.

It's not that Brady can't be blitzed. Him playing as good as anyone ever has, that line playing lights out, and them having lethal receivers makes it critical that you winthat blitz every time. Brady won't miss his man, he won't miss your guy coming, his line will pick your guy up anyway, his guys will get open v/s man, and you'll be screwed.

I'd like to see someone pull it off, though. There has to be a weakness there. You could stunt up the middle to overload a side, and possibly get a play out of it, especially if you're quick in the middle.
