I think Ryan's overrated myself. We have Moore and Basanez who I think could handle the backup and have the potential to start in the future. If they are looking for a QB Flacco from Delaware could be had in the 2nd or 3rd round and I thought he looked like pro material (albeit in 1-AA competition).
I'm guessing they go OL or DL, possibly a WR if a really good one is there (and yes, I think Jarrett is a bust). Also the possibility of RB could be there, although I'd be in favor of dumping Foster and going after Michael Turner a UFA from the Chargers as a replacement.

I could get behind that approach!

I thought I remember Ryan being described as "intelligent" and that along with size and arm strength would make him a good pro prospect. Must be inaccurate as I also keep seeing him drop as a 1st round prospect. I just don't think Baseanez or Moore is the answer for us and am more than worried that Jake's injury will have a lasting impact and if he's even ready for next season he won't be the same.

Turner does not make sense to me. We have DW and we have never given him a chance to start. There is plenty of reason to think he could be a top back if given enough opportunities.

Seems a lot of peoply think Ryan might be overrated. Not sure on that myself.

My problem is that I am not convinced Moore or Basanez are capable of being solid full-time starters, and any later round qb pick would be nothing more than a flyer on a prospect like Moore and Basanez. Counting on Jake being back, healthy and playing like he did at the beginning of the season is worrisome to me.

I agree, but I don't see a lot of viable alternatives. I'm not of the opinion that any decent veteran will make a difference, because we'll still have the same offensive problems that limited us this season. If we could somehow add a McNabb, that would be great, but we won't and anything short of that is probably not significant enough to worry about. Having someone step up as a #2 WR, getting better play-calling, and showing a more consistent running game will do a lot more for this offense than choosing a backup quarterback.

And by that, I'm not saying that people shouldn't talk about it. It's fine to speculate about who they should get to fill that role, I'm just stating my personal opinion that it really won't matter who it is. Any decent guy gets the job done with a good offense around him, while no one short of an elite QB will carry an offense that has problems.

Jason Whitlock's latest "article" has a blurb about McNabb. He said he hopes the eagles are stupid enough to trade him, and then mentions something about how McNabb in Carolina with Steve Smith would make the Panthers Super Bowl contenders.

I'd look at Ricky Santos from New Hampshire before Flacco, if you're gonna look at I-AA.

I saw that too. Not sure I agree but it was interesting. Bringing him here would mean Jake is out so we would still need a solid #2 to fill in when he goes down for a quarter of the season. I doubt he ever plays a full 16 game season the rest of his career.

Yeah, they're not making that move as long as Jake is still here, and Philly won't move him for less than a first & second anyway.

does McNabb still command that? He's no Weinke, but he's no Brady either...
