We've been known to try to keep guys just after their expiration date. See Peete, Rodney and White, Reggie for example. I think it'd be best if this were Vinny's last hurrah.

Sounds a lot like what the smarter TBR folks have suggested... :9:

If Jake comes back close to 100% by September, and that's a big if.

Or maybe Carr will improve in the offseason and we can elevate him to #1. :curtain:

well, if he can go, that'd not be too awful. He knows the offense, obviously. He can tutor. He's got a record of relative success.

On the back side, he's not especially reliable down the stretch, declining a little physically, and coming off Jake's elbow it wouldn't be bad to have something more solid.

It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. If Delhomme could go the whole season he would be a valuable asset on the sideline. It's a shame he couldn't have been here when approaching 40 instead of 45.

Since Carr has obviously flunked the test, this organization needs to make an offseason move to prepare for the future at QB for once it is determined Jake is done, whenever that is. Jake's injury could make that date sooner, instead of later.

Problem in making an offseason move for QB now,,, this team has so many other pressing needs.

Vinny will be a reliable backup to Jake next year, but it isn't doing anything for us for the future whatsoever. We will wake up one morning and both Jake & Vinny will be done, hopefully we are not empty-handed when that day comes.

It was a highly unlikely set of events that allowed Vinny to be a starter again this year. I would take that as my chance to go out on my own terms if I were him.

We need to sign a decent veteran QB to backup Jake. Carr is a failure but it was a good attempt to shore up a weak spot on the roster when we signed him. I would not mind signing a guy like Culpepper and letting him compete with Jake for the starters spot. He might rekindle his magic from his Viking days when teamed with Smith. If not he would be a solid backup.

I could live with a Culpepper signing, but how much did we commit to Carr?

The reason I think Vinny is our best option as the backup is because I'm afraid our hands are tied right now with what we have. Lets face it, the Panthers just don't bring in many people, and I don't know what they committed to Carr, but I'm afraid they will be hesitant to bring in another QB for the 2nd year in a row. I believe they SHOULD, but I'm afraid they won't.
