as stated, it's tuff. jarrett and/or one of the other rooks may be starting or even make it to the pro bowl in a couple of years ... or they may be on the street. the idea is to come up with some kind of objective system (as practical) to compare how teams have done in the draft. giving beason an A grade is obviously not objective but i don't think i will get a ton of argument that he looks like a player who will probably make it at least once. if there is, i can change the grade.

Each volunteer could take a division...

are you volunteering to take a division? basically, just need to know how each draft pick worked out (starter, backup, etc.). I will plug in and then we can tweak the matrix if we need to.

It's probably best, in that case, to just exculde 2007 at this point.

Cool stuff, but I don't think that Pro Bowls are the best way of evaluating performance.

at the moment i'm trying to achieve objective measurement. i know that there's a lot of hype involved in the vote i'm open to suggestions.

I did a full league-wide analysis of draft "success" back a number of years ago, but I focused on bust vs. contributor rather than specific levels of success since my goal was to identify which positions had the highest risk of "busting" in the draft. This, while cool from a fan perspective, is nothing revolutionary or particularly objective, and I don't think that it accurately represents player value or the wisdom of each pick.

The problem, I think, is that so much of football analysis is entirely subjective. Football is not a game of individual performance, instead being greatly influenced by the surrounding team. So it's difficult if not impossible to distill a specific value from statistics or awards that isn't highly subjective and controversial. That doesn't mean that you should stop, because it's worth looking at if nothing else, but I don't see it as leading to something more meaningful than previous attempts to judge the quality of Panthers drafts.

Pro Bowl is good enough. You can go into how much out of that time a player started and whether he deserved to do so and all that, but it's complicated. You really can't tweak a player into being that much better or worse. On the other hand, it's not like this is going to be a specific evaluation past idle entertainment anyway.
