    TEXANS LOSE STARTING SAFETY

Houston Texans strong safety Jason Simmons, an opening-day starter for the first time in his career, was lost for the season on Sunday when he tore a patellar tendon.

"I just was going to avoid a lineman and put my foot in the ground, and it just gave way," Simmons said, according to the Houston Chronicle. "Nothing more to it, just a freak accident. I was so upset. You finally get your chance — I wait to start my whole career — but I never could question God's timing. I'm fine."

Von Hutchins replaced Simmons in the lineup. It's unknown whether the Texans will explore signing a veteran free-agent. Available guys include Robert Griffith and Nick Sorensen.

When you read PFT, you make baby Jesus cry.

Houston didn't have success running the ball until the fourth quarter, and even then it wasn't much. Andre Johnson is a big, physical receiver who could give us problems, but he loves to go deep and our coverage should limit him there. They do use him on crosses and hooks, so we'll need good tackling, but if we do then he should be contained. Schaub also likes to hit the backs and tight ends, with Green and Owen Daniels both having legitimate skills in that respect.

Meanwhile on the other side, their rush defense is nothing special. We should be able to control the ball that way if our linemen execute, and I'm not terribly worried about their pass rush either. Dunta Robinson isn't the shutdown corner people were hyping him to be, so he'll need safety help on Steve. Avoid turnovers and we should be able to score 20+ points.

yeah, Dunta never really developed into greatness. I didn't think he deserved to be a top ten corner, but I was up with him till then.

It is, in fact, a good time to keep underneath coverage good. Schaub's competent enough to make you pay a little there. Keep the mistakes down on Johnson, he'll catch 75 yards worth and not kill you.

    From Panthers.Com FYI

    Texans tickets available

Approximately 300 tickets remain for the Panthers home opener versus Houston. Tickets can be purchased through TicketMaster or the Bank of America Stadium Ticket Office.

I forgot that they transitioned to the 4/3 and drafted Okoye. So Kalil and Hartwig get another youngin to play with next week.

They are a little bigger up front this year. Weaver starting at LDE is odd, perhaps trying to shore up a perenially bad run defense. Williams at RDE did legitimately have a good game vs KC, 4 tackles, two sacks, and the FR for a touchdown. That's Gross' matchup.

Ryans inherited the MLB job. He was a hitter at bama, though undersized. They don't have much else at linebacker. Some veteran castoffs starting. I'd like to see us use King and our backs in the passing game to take advantage of them.

Boulware will step in for their hurt Safety.

Dunta did pick off Huard, though from the highlight it was another DB that popped it up in the air.

KC lost Kennison early, and their offensive line allowed a lot of hits on Huard. And they seemed to pass a lot, even though Kennsion got hurt early and they really don't have much at WR.

I think a similar game plan can work vs Houston. They have smaller backers that are not that fast, so the zone stuff should work pretty well. And we can use King as a good matchup. Draw thier safeties down and I like our chances on the outside.
