    Your joking right???

In the 5 seasons after Polian left we were: 7-9, 4-12, 8-8, 7-9, and 1-15. Polian left the Panthers old and slow. He put together a team that won an amazing 7 games as a 1st year franchise and then even more amazing 12 games in season 2 and an NFC Championship game. By building for this quick result approach, he left the team in horrible shape for the future. The record is evidence of that fact. In turn, Hurney was part of the team that took over after those 5 miserable years and the results since have been very good. You simply can't argue that the Hurney/Fox era has turned a doormat franchise into a perenial post-season contender.

They beat the two best defenses in the league last year in Chicago and Baltimore. They beat the Pats who had owned them for years. They adapted their game to be effective against the opponent they played. Stats do not determine champions, it is done on the field. When teams took away Harrison and Wayne they beat you with the backs and tight ends.

    FYI:

    Polian's 1st 5 years with Indy:

    win/loss
    3-13, 3-13, 13-3, 10-6, 6-10

    35-45

2 playoff appearances and 2 playoff losses (0-2 playoff record)

    Hurney's 1st 5 years:

    win/loss
    7-9, 11-5, 7-9, 11-5, 8-8

    44-36

    2 playoff appearances
    5 playoff wins
    2 playoff losses
    1 Super Bowl appearance
    2 NFC Championship Games

I would really like to know how you arrive at Polian's 1st 5 years at Indy being more successful than Hurney's 1st 5 years for the Panthers????

Great free agent pick-up. Has nothing to do with the horrible condition our franchise was in going into the 1997 season.

polian's far from the end-all, and he certainly lacks long term plans at times - plus he's a prick. Does it beat a yes-man who does nothing more than administrate?

Yeah. I mean, a GM's supposed to be able to evaluate talent.

They only beat Baltimore because the Ravens were hopeless on offense, and Chicago's defense really struggled down the stretch so they certainly weren't one of the best come playoff time. Plus I'm not sure that they beat the Pats so much as the Pats beat themselves. Can you ever remember Brady melting down late in a playoff game before? I can't either, and it had nothing to do with the Colts' pass rush or coverage.

    From Peter King (9/10/07)

    Stat of the Week II

One more reason to fear the Colts: They are, relatively speaking, in phenomenally good cap shape. The 10 teams that open the season with the most to spend under the league's $109-million cap limit:

    1. Minnesota $19.05 million
    2. Jacksonville $18.66 million
    3. Tampa Bay $17.12 million
    4. Buffalo $13.77 million
    5. Indianapolis $13.32 million
    6. Kansas City $12.99 million
    7. Dallas $12.95 million
    8. Tennessee $12.93 million
    9. Green Bay $12.80 million
    10. Oakland $11.99 million

The teams pinching pennies the most as the season dawns: Chicago ($647,000), Detroit ($1.68 million), Arizona ($1.74 million) and the Giants ($1.76 million).
