I think he is somewhat overrated. He has the ability to do anything. I would trade consistancy for the interceptions and freakish plays. I think it's more by the Panther fans themselves than him being overrated by nfl fans as a whole.

If anything Peppers is underrated because nearly all fans and even most commentators don't appreciate his abilities as a run defender. y2b's problem is that he sees DEs in Cover 2 schemes allowed to attack upfield without any other responsibilities and wonders why Peppers doesn't get into the backfield as often as they do. If you understand our scheme, Peppers never disappears and he is the opposite of inconsistent. Once Strahan declined, that left Peppers far better than any other defensive end in the league.

And yeah, that comment about dominating was just dumb. Peppers was dominating throughout the first third of the season last year, so to say he hasn't "dominated since detroit" is ridiculous.

Steve Smith will always be the most underrated player IMO. I like it that way cuz it keeps him angry.

Overrated has to be Jenkins. Anybody else would have got the boot a long time ago. He doesn't show any desire to win or be healthy or otherwise be a leader.

Agree 100% on this. When we drafted him I was hoping for the next Ray Lewis. People love to say, "but he made 15 tackles... blah, blah, blah." How many were behind the LOS and how many were 5-6 yards down field? 0 and 15 respectively, whoopty fucking doo. He can't cover for shit and he takes the punishment of the hit instead of giving the punishment. It always seems the RB is knocking the fuck out of him and knocking him on his ass instead of the other way around. He's so overrated it's off the damn scale.

    :iagree:

and you generally hear a lot more hype about Freeney

Peppers, on the other hand, is virtually never a liability. And I think people also forget that he's a LDE (wisely put there by Fox), which gives him greater run responsibility. People don't see that. Unfortunately, it all comes back to how people judge DE's, which is by total number of sacks. Pep may never lead the league in sacks, but that doesn't make him any less dominant of a player.
