New lens, new friend

today was the first pretty day since i got my new lens so I decided to take a walk with my dog along the creek and wetlands behind the house. Along the way we ran across a stray puppy who looks uncannily like my dog - I'd be concerned that my dog would show up on a future episode of Maury if he wasn't fixed.

Anyway, pretty day with my dog and random new puppy - again, not a lot of great or new subjects, but fun to play with a new lens. I'm still learning this one - it by far the most finniky (sp?) lens I've used - but I really like some of the results.

big mark, i have no idea how you handle the xti. it was small in my teeny hands

 

I guess since I didnt have anything to compare it against that I didnt know any better. I DID get the vertical battery grip and it helps a lot - particularly (not surprisingly) when shooting vertically. I also like the weight better when I've got larger lenses on it - although I've never really had any of the VERY large lenses mounted.

i noticed that several of these shots were taken vertically. any particular reason?

nothing personal but, so far, i'm not taken with any of the wide angle lens shots anyone has posted. even the link larry had to dustyshotme. for instance, the one of the bed looks like crap. if i took that picture i would hit 'delete' and this guy has it on his portfolio. to me, it's a distorted picture and i don't 'get' it (other than for the real close up shots). however, what i know about photography could fit on a pin head

that said, i think you captured the puppyness of the puppy really, really well

That second one says: "Rut Ro" to me. Like it has done something.

All of the photos were nice. It's good though that you aren't getting stuck in "horizontal hold." Although some of them might have been better as a horizontal. Just my humble opinion. A dozen people will take a dozen different photos of the same scene. You might do both horizontal AND vertical of the same scenes just to see the difference in them.
