never fails for us. When we trade down, we want a guy we know is too low for our pick.

ESPN said Beason was our choice at #14 too. Hard to say if they're full of shit or not, but it wouldn't surprise me either way. In any case, the trade down was fine since no one we could use was really worth the 14th and we got solid value.

    maybe so.
we just seem to do this when we know that who we want is nowhere near realistic.

Agree. I like the trade down because there really was nothing for us there at 14. I wasn't a big fan of the pick, but he seems decent.

I see him listed right around our pick number by the experts - and the experts in the front office agree, too.

I haven't seen anyone call it a reach except on this board.

They had options at 14 Submitted by Darin on Sat, 2007-04-28 17:18. Panthers coach John Fox suggested that when the Panthers were fielding offers for the 14th pick (which they traded to the Jets), the Cleveland Browns called.
They offered a package "similar to" what they ended up giving Dallas for 22, where they took Brady Quinn.
"Next year's first is always interesting," Fox said.
GM Marty Hurney then mentioned the Jets package was deemed best because it allowed them to stay in the first round this year and get an extra second.

Shit. That Cleveland package would have been better.

that value's not as good at 14, but I'd still have taken a much harder look at that Cleveland offer. Apparently Cleveland was going to give anyone anything.

Not taking that Cleveland deal indicates a win now urgency. Nothing crazy, but they're not willing to be hugely patient it seems.

or a "we put off every last need we had" environment where we can't afford to give up a top pick.
