Read an article yesterday about how malicious websites can turn on the voice recognition software and perform tasks using mp3 recorded commands. Something along the lines of "Delete star dot star". Is that true? Can it really be hacked that easily?

I don't expect perfection but I do see that people I know who are switching are eperiencing problems. That's why I said a while back I couldn't imagine corporate adoption at this point. At least where I work technical issues are not a legitimate reason for not getting something done so it's just too much to risk.

Have you know anything about issues that arise when upgradig to .net 2.0. Both of my partners had to re-install XP after installing SQL Server 2005. One was having sound card issues and kept getting svchost errors and the others just locked up immediately. I on the other hand had no problems whatsoever.
I'd like to start developing in .net 2.0 but after that experience I can't see them going for it anytime soon.

That is inane. If they could turn on voice recognition and guarantee that you had a slightly hosed speaker and microphone setup (since most of these have echo cancellation, sound coming from speakers won't be all that audible to the mic), then they'd have the issue that these sorts of commands are not easily done. Plus you'd hear it... And they have confirmations. The list goes on...

And people adopting ANYTHING new with computers (see Pantherpaul) experience problems. For large corporate users, there is compelling value and large corporations have the staff and expertise to test and resolve issues ahead of time, just like they do with the massive volume of non-Microsoft IT changes they make constantly.

.Net 2.0 and SQL 2005 are separate beasts. .Net 3.0 is on the way, you're not cutting edge by using 2.0... SQL 2005 has been VERY successful, but pre-SP1 it did have one or two potentially nasty issues that surfaced so those SP's are highly recommended.

My point was it's not new tech, there is plenty of help out there on it, and the likelihood if it hosing a sound card is very slight...

You might be surprised what BofA uses. the problem with all of the "IT admins" that post from large companies is they typically see a TINY slice of what's going on there. BofA in particular is highly segmented. I know some of the other large banks are already using SQL 2005 and .Net 2.0, in fact I just got an e-mail that .Net 3.0 is being rolled into the main web farms within the month...
