The question is regarding the Cowboys, but I thought it was appropriate..

The Cowboys need a safety and I was wonder who will be the best one in the draft? And what position should they take? Or should they take best available? -- Usevio, Toledo, Ohio

Kiper: Last year, I thought they would take a free safety (Roy Williams is a strong safety whose coverage skills are suspect). They have Keith Davis and drafted Pat Watkins in the fifth round last year, but they still need a top-echelon free safety. Florida's Reggie Nelson is one of most instinctive safeties in college and, if he comes out, should be the first safety taken. LSU's LaRon Landry was a four-year starter, although his ball skills are questionable at times. Nelson would be the best fit, but will he still be on the board that late in the first round? Another safety the Cowboys could look at in the third or fourth round is Utah's Eric Weddle, who is a Bill Parcells-type player: smart, tough and versatile.

I would trust Builder's evaluation of college safeties before Kiper's. I have no idea why that hair helmet still has a job.

amen. Kiper is the worst. How he still works for ESPN is beyond me. 8 out of 10 times he's wrong, and 6 out of the 8, he is clueless.

guessing this was supposed to go back in Pro so I'm putting it there. If not I'll move it back.

I've heard guys question Landry's ball skills at times, and I don't see that as a problem often. First I've seen Nelson get listed ahead of him. Weddle is almost universally a 2nd, from what I've seen.

Kiper is not the worst, IMHO. He is dead on many times, but way off on others. Just like everyone else, including the teams. What's interesting is many feel he repeats what NFL scouts are telling him. That makes him all the more interesting to me. Other people are saying similar things about those 1st round Ss, and I imagine its a decent start.

I am sure Gamble is ready to find somebody to have an intellectual conversation with.
