    Here's a big reason I'm loyal:

    Panthers -

    1997 - we sucked balls
1998 - we sucked bigger balls and fired the coach.
1999 - we were mediocre and thought it was fucking awesome because we were so accustomed to sucking huge cock.
    2000 - we sucked balls
2001 - we sucked unprecedented balls and fired the coach ( Weinke was the qb ).
    2002 - we sucked balls.
2003 - For the first half of the first game, we suck balls. Enter Jake. Dramatic comeback, ended with a trip to Superbowl.
    2004 - See 2000.
2005 - We whip ass. Trip to NFCC.
2006 - 6-6. We control our own destiny. Better than any year between '96 and 2003.

For 6 full seasons before Jake came, we were fucking horrible. Jake came and made us a contender every single year.

Seems dumb to want to discard that.

We're a better organization now. The QB will usually get too much credit or too much blame.

I'm loyal because he's our best (only) option right now.

Delhomme didn't suck balls in 2004. In fact, he was on fire in the last half of the year.

You make a good case there, meat.

    7-9, with or without him.

Setting aside the fact that I know he can get it done (and that grooming a player over time is smarter than anything else we could do), and that this team still believes in him even though he's taken to a tantrum or two this year, he's still our best. And not just because Weinke is less talented. If we want to get another veteran option to fight, I have a hard time seeing us get an upgrade.

Selfishly, I also had to deal with QB controversies being ridiculous in this format, and divisive within the team. We dealt with that for, oh, say, 1997-2002 and preseason 2003. We were worst in our history through that point. Not coincidentally, we've been best after that point.

I do not blame Jake for anything on his own. But at the same time I do not find him off limits to short term banishment. And it not just about him. The QB for better or worse is the team Captain. And sometimes the Captain needs to take the hit for the crew in order for the crew to be motivated into doing a better job. Right now the crew of the SS Panther is on the verge of skuttling the ship and perhaps they need a change of command on the bridge just to keep the damn thing afloat.
