NFLN is included in the basic

And yeah, the NFL is the daddy...you can't compare it to the Golf channel at all...it's not like there's highlights in 15 tourny's every weekend, etc...

Most of the stuff on there just repeats over & over, and then the Cheerleader competition was pretty cool actually...more on that later...The NFL Replay's blows away the SuperFan shit I paid $100 for. Plus I like the segment where they ask the Head of Officiating about all those questionable calls.

It's like ESPNews without the other sports.

The broadcast was underwhelming, IMO. Gumble needs to knock the rust off, fast. At times, I thought it was Good Morning America. They spent way, way too much time talking about Jake Plummer, and not enough time talking about the game. And I hate to say this, because I loved him as a player, but Marshall Faulk is really bad at broadcasting.

It's part of the standard package on DirecTV. No idea on Dish. I know that the fees for the NFL Network were included in DTV's extension of the NFL Sunday Ticket exclusivity.

It is a huge negotiating ploy and a succesful one. One of the most successful ways to get a network on a cable company's lineup is customer demand. The old "I want my MTV" call in campaign is still incredibly powerful. I don't remember the formula, but TWC used a variation of 1 caller = x number of subs/cost basis for viewer demand as part of its decision making process in adding channels to a market. Another aspect i the expected ad revenues and demographics for the local spots. One of the problems with the NFL Network is that it doesn't open up new ad dollars or demographics and will most likely siphon off dollars from the established and expensive ESPN brands.

 Thanks, but we had nearly 20 family and friends over. It was one of the best Thanksgiving meals I've ever had and the company was pretty good too.

As I said, the USSC ruled against Paramount because of block booking. That isn't applicable here. And also as I pointed out, the Yankees and any number of others own networks that distribute their own games. It isn't illegal in the slightest. Meanwhile I'd love to see anyone explain why cable companies are allowed to do what they do when the phone companies were broken up for what would seem to be exactly the same situation.

That broadcast sucked pretty bad. Sounded like a highschool production.

This is off topic a little, but all major networks (ABC,NBC,CBS) and even smaller networks like MTV have all their shows online and you can watch them after the fact online for free. I wonder if the NFL will catch on to this and offer games online for a price.

I honestly believe that in the future computers and tvs will be the same. I think that what we now consider a TV will eventually be an entire home control station that will basically run your house (electric, security temperature and entertain you.

People people people. Why are you so scared of DirecTV? Don't believe the rumors of outages and poor reception. I've had less down time with sat than I did with cable. I got DirecTV several years ago and could not be more pleased. Sat is the now and the future. Get on board.

    true true

every channel is digital, much better picture than cable...

and all the channels look the same, unlike cable when one channel looks too red and others look kind of flat, and then you get over the 200's or whatever and it all look clear again, but they still don't look as good as sat

Well I am not a cable company employee, but in my direct comparison challenge between DTV and Time-Warner Cable last year on a 56" DLP I discovered that the digital HDTV signals were great on both platforms, but as soon as I started going around the channel lineup on TWC the pictures compared to DTV were just not as clear and in same cases had static. The TW employee told me that DLP was the problem and that plasma worked better. When I switched over to the DTV box, he explained to me perhaps there was a signal problem. I told him I agreed, their signal sucks so just climb back up the pole, disconnect and lose my address.

I think this is more of an issue with the feeds coming from TWC. Time-Warner merely purchased the regional Cablevision and Vision Cable and I seriously doubt they invested a lot of money to modernize those old also rans. DTV processes all their signals into an MPEG-2 stream that feeds into your box and there is a very consistent look across all channels. And the new DTV boxes using the MPEG-4 stream are even better. But I do not think satellite is superior from a technology standpoint. I think in Charlotte, it is better from an implementation standpoint. When I go to Seattle every summer for a month, my apartment has a 60" DLP and Comcast Cable which looks brilliant across the entire lineup. If I lived back there, I would probably stick with cable (plus the 12 megabit cable modem is AWESOME!!) Leave it to TWC to be the lowest common denominator.
