Finally - I was about 20 minutes (maybe) from just getting in the car and heading back down to Charlotte. Heard from my sister at midday and not since and couldn't get through on the waiting room phone or cells so I was near panic. He's in recovery and will be in surgical ICU at least to Monday because his main Doctor will be out of town but one of the three surgeons will be on his case but won't move him out of ICU. Just as well because there are only 2 patients per nurse and with all he's had done, I feel better knowing he's in that sort of situation. He's still in recovery at this point so they haven't seen him yet, but the surgeons were all pleased and they got all the tumor. They were not able to "leave enough" for the type of "artificial voice" that's "built in", so he'll wind up with one of those "wand things". He'll be in the hospital 10-14 days and they said if he got out in 10 it would be considered an extremely fast recovery. Mom sounds exhausted and my sister is trying to convince her to go home tonight to sleep, but when I talked to Mom, she was already planning to stay in the ICU waiting room (no one else in there) possibly all weekend if they'd let her. At least they have couches. Mom's hands and legs and muscles in general are in knots.

And on a more board appropriate note, I asked him if he watched the whole game Monday night and he did (he's been in the hospital since last week because he'd lost so much weight not being able to swallow they had to build him up to do surgery). I figured he'd take his night dose of morphine at halftime. Mom & Dad go to all the games too - theirs were the lower tickets we had available. He made Mom go Monday, but I'm not sure she'll be willing Sunday.

Where my dad is they have 2 CNA’s (certified nursing assistants can’t really do anything my sisters and I couldn’t do) and only 1 actual RN for 16 geriatric patients. It’s extremely important that your dad will be getting such personal attention around the clock. I'm sure he is getting the best of care. You and your family will be in my prayers.
