Barney Rubble (Chris Mortenson) threw out the possibilty that Rattay could leapfrog over Grabass to be the #2 (starter) if push came to shove and the Bucs didn't have any confidence in Grabass.

I wonder if they could work out a trade for Brady Quinn.

Weinke is good enough to start. His effective years are coming to an end, so he wouldn't mind going to Tampa Bay. And I wouldn't mind Basanez being our back-up quarterback.

I'd like for us to have another draft pick to start working on the quarterback of the future. If we could find a good one in the draft we should have three years to groom him, assuming Jake stays healthy.

you don't trade a reliable backup to a division rival.

I agreed that it made sense. I should have elaborated that it makes sense from Tampa Bay's perspective. From our perspective, depending on what the offer from Tampa Bay is, we might consider it to address our long-term weakness at the QB slot.

Don't forget about Tim Rattay. They probably aren't going to add anybody, and there really isn't much out there to begin with.

we'd create the weakness by trading Weinke away. It's not that Weinke's going to succeed Delhomme, as much as having that pair means not screwing with the QB position for a couple more years.

I was curious to hear why, because in my mind there's no way it makes sense.

Other than the fact that we would get nothing more than a free meal at Denny's in return, you don't want to supply a need to a division rival, while leaving us with no back-up quarterback. If Tampa does anything, they'll resign Fiedler, but I'm not even expecting them to go that far. They've got what they've got.

Jay Fiedler. Cheap, instant depth and Fiedler wasnt THAT bad for Miami.
