I've submitted online applications to a couple of jobs in Charlotte.

    - a call quality analyst position with Bank of America.
    - a supervisor position with Carrier

Both of these are jobs I'm very well qualified for, but it's not all that easy to get an HR person to pay attention to a resume' that comes from three states away.

I've wanted to live in the Carolinas ever since I was in college (years before the Panthers even existed) and have college friends down there with whom I'm still in touch.

Since my divorce there is absolutely nothing left for me in Ohio, and despite my family I simply do not want to live in West Virginia again.

It seems to me that if there was ever a time, it's now. I'm not getting any younger and you don't get this time back, so I'm very much hoping that one of these opportunities works out (the BOA job is the best fit).

If you have a moment (and the inclination) to say a prayer for me, please do. I'd appreciate it.

Not meaning to be offensive, but I don't think someone getting a new job is really something to pray for (also, this doesn't really belong in this forum). Anyway, I hope you get it because N.C. is a great place to live.

nope he's not a george klgeorge13. I WISH he was just another harmless anonymous message board dude. Instead he has recently made death threats and a couple of really creepy phone calls that would probably keep most people up at night :woohoo:

I may be reading this wrong but it sounds like you are originally fron WV and recently divorced. I just have to ask. Doesn't that make for awkward situations at family reunions?

    Good luck with the job.

Mr. Scot, I don't know what your ability to travel is, but if you could somehow visit Charlotte, your chances of getting an interview are much higher (and the more flexible your travel plans are the better). I actually worked in recruiting for a bank here in Charlotte for several years, and I can tell you that for non-specialized fields, most recruiters first look at local candidates (they usually get tons of resumes, so do not need to look outside of the local area) because there will be no issue with relocation, as well as the increased convenience for interviews, start dates, completion of paperwork, etc. But if you can plan on being in town, then some recruiters are willing to either set up an interview with the hiring manager or even meet qualified out-of-State candidates themselves during the time they are in town (of course, some recuiters are more willing to work with you than others, so there are no guarantees).

Even if a recuiter is not able to meet with you or set up an interview, talking to them personally does a couple of things. First, it gets your name in front of them, so rather than being just one of the multitude, the recuiter now knows who you are and is much more likely to recognize your name and take that extra second to review your resume. Also, by talking directly to them you have the opportunity to explain your situation and answer any questions/concerns they might have. It also give them an opportunity to get a feel for you and see if you might be a good fit. If you get a good recruiter, this could even turn into an impromtu phone interview (not likely, but I have seen it happen), so if you go this route, definitely be prepared.

Of course, nowadays it is often difficult to get to the recruiter since they do not typically include their phone number in job listings. However, if you call the company's main number and ask to speak to a recuiter, you have a much better chance of getting to them. You might need to bs your way through a receptionist, but if you are clever, it can be done. Which brings up another point, if you do plan on being in town for a specific period, then I would also look up some other companies that fit what you are looking for to see if they have anything available...not all listings make it to the internet.

Well, I hope this helps, and if it sounds like I'm telling you what to do and how to do it, I don't mean to. But I just know how difficult it can be to find a job in another state. Also, since I never recruited for your area, I have no idea about how many qualified candidates there might be, so if there are only a handful, everything I said might be moot. Anyway, good luck.

Good luck. As a former Ohioan, Charlotte is a good place to start your trek as a 'Damn Yankee' :imagestor
