Sunday felt like it was a much worse beating and we should have lost by more but we only lost by 14 and IF those two almost defensive TDs happened for us we might have had a shot … as unbelievable as that seems

All of last year no one beat us by more than 10 (Chi and TB), the other three losses were by a total of 10 pts.
Aside from getting handled in Seattle the last real ass kicking we received was in ‘04 at the hands of Philly.
Hopefully we don’t get embarrassed again this season.

    The Beatdown Tally -

    Oak 52 - 9 ‘00
    Atl 41 - 0 ‘02
    Den 34 - 0 ‘97
    StL 48 - 14 ‘01
    Atl 30 - 0 ‘02
    Atl 51 - 23 ‘98
    NYJ 48 - 21 ‘98
    StL 35 - 10 ‘99
    Oak 38 - 14 ‘97
    Ari 30 - 7 ‘01
    Phi 30 - 8 ‘04
    Ten 37 - 17 ‘03

Apparently these are the three keys to beating Carolina ass these days -

1). apply some nasty 3-4 on D . . . OR just get a lil' pressure on Jake
    2). cut block & cut back on O . . . stretch plays
3). triple cover Smitty . .. or hope he’s gimpy

Only like two of those games have anything to do with Delhomme or Smith.

Yeah, it felt a lot worse than it looks statistically. As noted, we did pretty well defensively in the second half, and Vick was only 10-22.

Agreed, if the opponent can pressure your QB, stop your run, run on you and shut down your superstar they will probably win.

I'm sorta thinking two different trains of thought with regards to the crappy playing and the actual score.

On one hand, teams occasionally can do that, pull out the win with a couple of big defensive scoring plays even though they've been outplayed most of the game. For example, look at the San Diego-Philly game last year.

On the other hand, the poor play can show other teams how to exploit bad tendecies, and lead to further losses if not corrected.

I dont think the running game was all that bad for us, we got down early and had to abandon it. Defensive breakdowns in the first half caused that. Once we became one diminsional they were able to tee off and rush the QB, with Wharton out and the poor early season O-line chemistry (as usual) that was fairly easy. I dont think that there is any question O-line was an area of concern before, and now is even more so. I am less concerned about the Defense with Morgan out, as we expected that, but we really need the line to step up and protect.

The linebackers fucking sucked on Sunday, so if that gets straightened out then we'll be fine. Jake has a retard day every now and then, so I'm not overly worried about anything else. Even LT doesn't keep me awake at night because Wharton wasn't All-Pro and I think we'll figure out an adequate solution.

Agree, Jake was thowing terrible, even if Smith had played the balls would have been 2-3 feet aboove his reach anyway. On the bright sde, Carter seems to be catching on and Kasay hit a long one. Unfortunately thats about all the positives I can think of. Hopefully this will serve as a wakeup call for a team that might have been reading too many press clipings about how great they are.
