any thoughts on what the best way to do it with a mac is?

from what i've read, the options are getting something like the Plextor ConvertX PVR for capturing the analog signal straight from a VCR or Hi8 camcorder and converting it to digital then burning a DVD with Toast 7.

another way to capture would be to get a new video camera that has firewire output and analog inputs to let it do the digital conversion.

just trying to find the cheapest and smartest way. i don't want to overbuy.

    Options

    Option 1
You can get a DVD recorder about $78 and up.
But that presents the same issue as VHS/8mm you have to FastForward to the scene you really want to see.

    Option 2
You could have a pro do it, and have the scenes on a menu and jump right to what you want. about $25 per hour/tape - and get any of them done VHS/VHS-C/8mm/Hi8 Email Me

    Option 3
Get a basic PC PII or higher ($75) Goodwill Computer Store
WinTV capture card ($15-50) New ones come with the software.
    DVD Writer ($55)
NeroVision Software (free with most writers)

    Option 4
Walgreens, Ritz Camerss, Wolff Cameras (expensive)
$49 per hr DVD & no menus

Believe you me, it will take processing power, time, and experiments to get the process down pat. So take your time if you are learning it yourself

thanks for your feedback. i was at best buy yesterday and i had almost sold myself on this idea as being the cheapest/fastest.

i've also got 100+ football games on VHS that i need to put on DVD. for that much volume, i'd like to just set it and forget it.

    another consideration

    One caveat:OUCH
Football games are ususally about 3 hours - DVD's hold 2 hours. So editing and commercial removal would be inline.

    Unless you recorded them yourself.
