I'm sure Catman is a good guy, and Fox was fucking shitty to do that. I even thought that when they did it - how CatMan didn't get the joke and it made them look like major assholes. For that, I'm glad the media is calling them out.

The dude doesn't 'deserve' anything from them, though, except maybe an apology and maybe some tickets or something like that. I don't feel bad for a guy having an old car who spends his meager income on 1000 bobbleheads of himself.:twocents:

I was watching that and I was thinking, WOW they are giving a car away?!?!

Then when I saw the cat man, I was thinking about how cool it was to reward such a faithful fan and another part of me was thinking, DAMN! I could have gone to that game.

When they gave him a toy, I was a bit surprised and the Cat man looked a bit puzzled. I was thinking it was pretty crappy on their part, but I didnt know if the Cat man was in on it or not.

I just say I must find that shocking as hell. I have known Greg for many years, used to sit a few rows up from him back in 97 and 98. To me that is just so out of character...

I think the whole thing with the bobbleheads and what not was a matter of getting all caught in the moment. Back in 2003 he won that Visa Hall of Fans thing where they took him and 31 other 'superfans' up to Canton and put thier picture on a plague in the Hall of Fame for one year. He then got all sorts of offers from Hollywood types to do spots and all sorta of requests from the press. I had a much smaller version of all that when we did the Bobby Flay show a couple of years ago. Then the Panthers go to the Superbowl and all those PR people really came on strong. He starts hanging with other Superfans who form a little support group and they all get playing cards and bobbleheads because the NFL sanctioned it.

I mean come on, you get reporters both regional and national calling you up. You get all sorts of New York and LA media types blowing all sorts of sunshine up your ass (I was told by a producer that I could perhaps get my own show on Food Network, doh!) and then you get a letter from Paul Taglibue giving you NFL permission to have a bobblehead made in your likeness. It is pretty easy to get lost in things.

I talked to Greg a couple of weeks ago. He is a little changed on the whole thing now. He knows that with fame does not come fortune and that it is fleeting. About the only thing he does enjoy out of it the charity side where he is asked to help out the Panthers charities from time to time.

I don't know that Catman charges for autographs but I've certainly heard it from more then one source. Not sure why anyone would want "just another fans's" autograph, but they sure shouldn't have to pay for it unless the proceeds go to charity or something. I knew immediately it was a joke when they gave it to him. Goose's tone and laughter left little doubt that "ha ha here IS your car" and that's it. Not particularly classy, but I agree if Good financed his own bobble heads, that's not very good money management. I work with far too many folks who have pretty serious money issues - worse then Good's for sure and yet every time you turn around they're spending money on crap. Can't really feel sorry for them having things repossessed etc but it bothers me that one of them has a baby and no car. Her boyfriend has a car but from what I've heard he's not real reliable.

My money is tight too, but on my week off this week I've pretty much stayed home and cleaned house and not spent much extra. And I sure don't expect others to help me out - well, Ed McMahon could bring me a million and that would be ok.............:ylsuper:

You're right. Except that if Ed walked up to you on national tv and told you that you had won a mil and then laughed at you when you got excited you'd be pissed. No?

I'm not dogging on him. Fowler's article made it sound like he was underpriveleged and saintly b/c he had 3 kids, worked with disabled children, and drove and old car. That's crap. I imagine he's an allright guy, I just disagree with Fowler's sales tactic. I think if he should get anything, it's a field pass or some shit.

Fame sucks, but Cat Man kinda gets what he's tried to get - which includes a bunch of people judging him publicly. Fuck that.
