If we see him as that good, he should be making the squad anyway. What you're really talking about are potentially useful bodies like Haye and Moorehead who don't have obvious long-term potential but you'd still like to have them around if you could. Are those guys worth keeping 2 QBs and losing a spot on the PS? I'm fine with you thinking they are, but I disagree.

    Applejack:
Last night was about all that Basanez played, but yes, better overall.

best vet QB's still available that we could probably get for around the min. (off hand):

    Jeff Blake
    Tommy Maddox
    Vinny Testaverde
    Kordell Stewart
    Tony Banks
    Koy Detmer
    Rohan Davey
    Shane Matthews

I don't think we're going in that direction for the #3, and we definitely shouldn't. Of the above, Vinny T would probably be the best one-year solution. He's that guy who could pick up the offense relatively quick. I would expect us to bring him in for a look if Jake, knock on wood, suffered a long-term injury. It's not a huge deal, though. It rarely gets to that point, the exception being 2002. I would feel better with Basanez, because he seems to have that "it" quality. He's willing to stand in the pocket under pressure, while having just enough escapablility to make something out of nothing (Jake). I feel like he could make just enough plays for us to have a shot. LeFors, on the other hand, scares the hell out of me.

In any event, lets just hope Delhomme stays durable until we find a younger, better #2.

Interesting that Rohan Davey has fallen from grace. Just last year Peter King was touting him as the next big backup to blowup as a starter.

He had a nice '05 summer in Europe. I think King was looking at the trend of successful NFLE QB's who eventaully make a name for themselves, but that doesn't always come true.

Isn't the 3rd QB considered an inactive player? The term "Emergency Quarterback" from my understanding is a player who is considered inactive unless the #1 and #2 option go down. If the #3 enters the game, niether the #1 or #2 QB can reenter the game...or something like that?

So basically, you carry a 3rd QB it only effects your 53-man roster, not your active roster.

That is my understanding. If you activate the 3rd stringer during a game then someone has to not be active.

In the near future we need to make a legitimate move for a guy to groom in the draft.
