Okay, I have no real football knowledge so this is just asking. Does it ever happen that a team might have insider info on an upcoming release that would instigate something like this? That's sort of cloak & dagger and I'm just thinking of the wild extremes - I think it's just something they did without deep dark motivation, but heck we're speculating so there's mine.

I don't know if I like a 4th and that salary for Edwards - but damn if he hasn't produced. For 10 years.

    Spoon was more....

    Gotta wonder about Morgan's noggin.

Something MUST be in the works, too much $$ to free up 'just because'.

Trading Shelton wouldn't require much cap room at all, so that's not it. Trading for Edwards would be interesting, because I think he's still a very good football player, but I doubt Hurney would do something like that, especialy this late in the preseason.

    It's WAY out of character.

I fear Morgan is messed up.

I don't think we need him. Certainly, healthy Edwards is better than Diggs healthy or not, but I don't believe we need a guy that good to be an elite defense. We seemed to be stopping the run quite well as it was, and if it was entirely a pass issue, I'd guess we'd simply insert Adams.

And for that matter, he's getting well on up there.

it would, however, continue the trend of paying, a bit after the fact, for a guy to replace a guy you didn't pay for.

I dunno. I"m not certain why I'm assuming him at WLB, though. He could play inside, and if they dumped Morgan, they could do that. Maybe they don't have a choice.

But you'd figure Seward/Draft is "enough". We've got so much talent around them, and Seward looked very stout in there with the big boys.

Dan. Graham is that TEs name. I'd give up a 2nd, assuming we extend him at the same time. They have so many TEs, and will almost certainly lose him after this year, so they may let him go for that.

Something in the back of my mind says we paid Pep a huge roster bonus this spring. Maybe its too late to restructure that particular money, so extending him may NOT lower his cap figure this year. So maybe extending him would cost us cap room. I'm not saying I understand how, but just that payment was somehow not the usual deal.

I argued for him to be the Defensive MVP each of the two previous seasons, so I think Edwards would be a huge upgrade, but I agree that it isn't necessary. The only way I see it happening is if Morgan is done and Hurney flinches when thinking about the injury histories of our other guys. That or if J.R. called him up and said, "Hey, I just made another $3 mil in stock this month. Why don't you go ahead and spend it?" If I'm not mistaken, this is the last year of Edwards' contract so that would work out well enough, but it would be wildly out of character.

I really don't think Graham is going anywhere. Even if the Patriots were willing to move him, they'd want Colbert or Carter and maybe something else in return.
