was weird, 1st D was facing 2nd and 3rd Off...and they were (as you would expect) dominating.

Pepp's hit today was the nastiest one I've seen in training camp since what's his name hit that other guy on a crossing route about 6 or 7 years ago......:thud:

Better ways (and worse ways, honestly) to say it, but true. We're hearing mostly good things about him right now, and the only two "bad" things other than "gives up the body too much". Two guys have mentioned attitude (WP being the other), but I don't see that as being as accurate or as intense as how it's being sold by people willing to believe it (not unlike the popular stigma that Chris Weinke doesn't care/pouts on the sidelines that got spread around 02-04).

I can't berate the guy for going down quickly when a 290 lb DE hits you like a truck. I can wish he'd take the hit better, or even give the hit, but against Peppers, I'll deal with that. If he gets caught from behind by the average linebacker, then maybe there's slightly more concern, but fuck it, he caught the ball, he got a first down. I'll take that out of anybody.

Funny, though, since I was concerned Shelton would have less success due to the speed of the NFL. Again, nothing to keep him from being successful.

    >>>Panthers | Shelton starting to improve after slow start
    Sun, 6 Aug 2006 10:46:12 -0700

The Charlotte Observer reports Carolina Panthers RB Eric Shelton had an impressive showing Saturday, Aug. 5, during the team's scrimmage. After a slow start to training camp, Shelton is hoping his improved performance during the scrimmage will be the start of something good. Shelton said, " I'll be able to look back on this day and (say), `I can produce in the NFL against the No. 1 defense and be successful.' I've got confidence in myself. I think I put confidence in my teammates and my coaches, as well, that I can produce."<<<

meh . .. I want to see him in action in an actual game time atmosphere. The Bills will be a decent enough warm up for him before the jags, fins, and steelers. We'll see how much confidence there is after he tangles with guys like the jags tackles and the steelers LBs (and Polamalu too) under the bright lights. Hope everyone is still confident.)

this should be the important part, sure. I'm glad he's stoked, he's gotta be. And now's his time to bring it, because there aren't any guarantees for him come September except that he won't be starting.

I just want to see him make the team - and not be scratched. If he can make the team - he'll likely see some action due to the likelihood that another RB is hurt at some point.

We need him to do well, so I hope he does. If DW blows up and DF pulls up lame again Shelton could be real good to have next year.

Yeah, no shame in being taken down. I think it's easy to forget that as big as Shelton is, only the DBs and Thomas Davis are actually smaller, so it's not like he should be bowling over everyone. I don't really care which of Shelton and Haynes wins the job as third RB as long as one of them shines, but I think both probably have something to offer.
