Let me guess . . . Chuck wanted more money, BELO said no, so Chuck 'slipped' up taping his sportscast and laucned an 'S' bomb and gets canned. Am I correct :) ? ? ? ? ?

THE BOTTOM LINE: Does getting canned cancel a non-compete clause in their contract (i.e. you are prevented from working in the same market for 6-12 months after the contract ends) ? My money says Chuck Howard will be on WFNZ show by September :) . . . MSP Perhaps? Or maybe the 10a-Noon show with Bill Rozinski (he can fill in when Bill is off doing ACC & NFL games) ?

Sports Director Chuck Howard resigns from WCNC
    Award-winning Howard resigns

    MARK WASHBURN
    TV/Radio Writer

Former WCNC sports director Chuck HowardChannel 36 sports director Chuck Howard has parted ways with the station in the wake of a technical goof that allowed a vulgarity on the air last week.

Howard, 41, WCNC sports director for 11 years, was taping a roundup Wednesday night for the next morning's "6 News Today" when he decided to redo the segment. "Let's retake that," he said, prefacing the statement with the word s---.

But when the roundup aired at 5:51 a.m. Thursday, the station showed the aborted segment rather than the one intended for broadcast. Morning anchor Colleen Odegaard immediately acknowledged the error and apologized to viewers. Howard was not on his usual newscasts Friday.

"Chuck has tendered his resignation and we have accepted it," Stuart Powell, president and general manager of the NBC affiliate, said Saturday.

He said he could not comment on the reasons for the resignation.

A message left at Howard's home was not immediately returned.

Howard, who worked on the station's evening and 11 p.m. broadcasts, joined WCNC in 1995 from a station in Buffalo, N.Y. In 2003, he was named North Carolina's best sportscaster by the Electronic News Association of the Carolinas.

Solarte played the tape. He wanted Chuck's job. The news industry is one back biting profession.

Taking the fall. I hope he wasn't the only one outed there. Solarte, invite Chuck to join TBR. There are far worse things posted here almost hourly.

I'd be willing to bet Chuck went into that meeting with a strong inclination to leave anyway, and at the first mention by management of an "array of disciplinary options...", he was gone. Hopefully he told them... "I've got your array of disciplinary options in my pants!" Or better yet, "I thought since I got away with dropping a live f-bomb 3 times last week, saying shit would be no big deal."

Good for him, he'll do fine (unless he goes to work for WFNZ, because satellite radio rules! There! No one else had said it yet, so I did...)

Anyway, the best part was that no one called to complain!

What's that saying about a tree falling in the woods... in Hickory, and if Steve Ohnesorge wasn't there to report it, then it must not have happened...?!

No big deal. I had the unfortunate timing to meet him once, what an ass! The personna that he puts forth on the radio and TV, being cocky and all, he's just like that. See ya, glad you're gone!:ylsuper:
