Got Dish in Nov., 2004 and committed to 2 years to get a deal on technical support and unit replacement. Good thing too I guess....Been on the phone roughly every other month for technical support (crashed receivers, etc.), mostly for the high def receiver. Last month though it was the DVR that they had to come out and replace.

Never had technical problems with Direct, the customer service just sucked, which is why I decided to try Dish.

Probably switching back to Direct once my two years with Dish is up.

customer service so far has been great...I had directv a few years ago and it was somewhat...we'll say lacking...

i requested a directv installer instead of a contract installer and that's what i got...he went above and beyond to meet my needs...i also got a follow up call from customer service taking their time to talk to me to cover everything to make sure i was happy with everything

for the first two months of service, my installer is my direct tech support...another reason he took his time to do the installation as well as he did, he's my go to guy for a while...

anybody ordering directv after my posts feel free to throw that referral my way when you sign up...just PM me for my account number

My brother has had the same experience with Dish. The Hi-Def receiver blew up. He's pissed. I"ve had DirecTV for over 10 years. Cable sux ass.
